One has to assume that evading the police would likely signify intoxication? Hard to see escaping a conviction with that?

@handa457 not necessarily, moment of stupidity and failing to stop when signalled to. Doesn't give details about when cops caught up...10 minutes later or next day.

Think he could still qualify for diversion either way.

Will probably attract less blowback than diversion for an aggravated offence.....

@handa457 He doesn't drink does he? I recall him always being sober when out and about but I could be wrong. I think it is more like he was speeding, and simply panicked not wanting to get caught and the repercussions of it. Clearly evading and getting charged is worse but we all have lapses of judgement at times. I said "I do" nearly 30 years ago and I am still paying for that 😉

@taniwharugby Not sure how it is in NZ but in Australia there are non conviction options or good behaviour non conviction basically meaning it does not impact your criminal record like a conviction sentence would.

Yeah says as much in article "Defence lawyer Rowan Butler entered the pleas on his behalf before community magistrate Kaye Davies. He asked that a plea not be immediately entered so he can request a discharge without conviction on behalf of his client."

Come to think of it I have had a few discharges without conviction in my time 🙂

One man's "evading police" is another man's "looking for an available safe space to pull over as quickly as possible"

I'd imagine a brain fart worrying about being pulled over, and reacting thinking he would get away with it. Dumb as, but people have the right, flight, freeze reaction. He took the wrong one

Caleb Clarke might be unavailable in Super Rugby Fantasy but he's a hell of a character in GTA Auckland.

NZ has changed, friggen nanny state. There was a time when we wanted our wingers to be as elusive as possible.
