Gotta say I loving Tupaea's first to games!

Quinn Tupaea is the Player of the Tournament so far and he was the best player of the All Blacks XV's European tour in November.

If he keeps this up, he clearly should be a key part of the All Blacks set up in 2025. A classy player.

    Has mongrel too.

Would love to see him back in black after what that grub Darcy Swain did to him.

    Delighted for him today.

A good night out. I'll watch a replay before reading the whole thread. I'm interested to see how Jacobson got concussed as the TMO was silent.

It might not have been noticeable on TV but the wind was very gusty, particularly in the 2nd half. It made the box kicks a lottery and probably affected the long lineout throws too. I still don't like that the Chiefs don't compete more on the opposition throw.

Penney blamed the wind at halftime and inferred they'd be much better with the wine behind them. Glorious.

And then started whining about injuries after the game.

Marshall's tone of commentary dropped off in the 2nd half too lol. He made TJ sound neutral.

Simon Parker was excellent. His pass to Tupaea was sublime. And his cleaning in the rucks allowed quick ball. Very good ball carrying too.

I thought Vai'i had a bloody good game too. He seemed to be inposing himself on the game with carries etc. Mind you I struggling to pick out any Chiafs that didn't play well. Tight 5 I thought were better, loosies a class above, and in general whole backline I thought looked to be better (which you would expect with forwards beating uo the opposition. I also think Tupaea looks like he really grown into he frame, I so bloody impressed with his game.

@KiwiMurph has a bit more size to him than Squire...he needs to add a bit of aggression to his game and he could make the step up.

He looks to have taken a step up this year. Maybe the AB XV tour was the catalyst. Long may it continue.

@Bovidae Great to see a guy from Mangawhai playing well. Will be interesting to see how well he covers ground as the season goes on. Playing well at the start of the season.

Yeah his biggest weakness is he looks a bit passive at times. He has such a big frame, he should be bouldering through guys. He needs to throw himself into contact a little bit more (though he obviously had a great game on Friday).

I really don't think there's much size difference from prime Squire.

The last thing they should be doing is drinking after that effort.

Quinn Tupea looks the goods. Would be great if he could get himself back in black.

Vaai has become an excellent lock. Great game from Tupaea too. If nz wants a winger with wheels Carter could be the man. Crusaders looked very pedestrian in the end.

Last word for Justin Marshall “Crusaders put to the sword. Literally”. Um that would be figuratively Justin.

Crusaders passing was awful and they were lucky not to concede in first half. Aumua really is out of place in super rugby. Chiefs punished the errors in the second.
I thought the tactical kicking was very good, as the wind was gusty. Big disappointment was repeatedly getting pinged on attacking throws in Saders 22. Will have to watch replay to work out what was going on there. Chiefs scrum was very efficient too. Just the lineouts are a concern.

Aumua looks like the guy who would dominate at amateur club level and walk in tries for fun. But at pro level where being big and strong is not enough he just looks ordinary. Add that to Havili at 12, who I think does his best but that is middling, and you have a non-threatening midfield. If I were penny id consider moving Havili to 15 and Jordan to the wing.

@Billy-Tell if you were Penney, you hopefully wouldn't get the opportunity to do that much longer.

Wasn't a high shot, he was coming down. There was nothing there at all. I think he may of collided with another Chiefs player.
