So I thought I'd get an early start on my watching of all the Oscar best picture nominations this past week.

A Real Pain: Jesse Eisenberg directed movie about two cousins, him and the Culkin from succession who travel to Poland to see where their grandmother, who survived the holocaust was from. Culkin will win best supporting actor. In the end this didn't get nominated for best picture.

Conclave: A movie about choosing a new pope. Better than it sounds on paper. Good performances, a bit of a mystery storyline, not really pro or anti Catholicism.

I've only seen two of the nominations so far this year and there's some I wouldn't have watched otherwise - Wicked and the other musical (I don't like film musicals but like theatre0, The Brutalist as it stars Adrien Brody whose screen presence I really dislike., and annoyed I didn't see Substance when it was at the cinemas as I'm not really a horror guy.

Yes. Brody annoys the shit out of me too. His mafia caricature in Peaky Blinders was like watching a 6 year old straight after they’d seen The Godfather for the first time.

Yeah, I already didn't like him but kind of tolerated him before that, but that is up there with the worst acting I've ever seen. I've seen more convincing performances in community theatre.

    A Real Pain
    Lived up to its title
Like both actors, hated the movie
Lasted 30 mins - my cut off/turn off

    Substance
    An excellent premise
Good for most of the movie, poor ending
    Cronenburg lite

    Anora
Best of the three I’ve seen. By a mile
One minute Woody Allen farce, the next the intensity of Uncut Gems - exhausting, frustrating, can’t look away

I didn't think alot of Substance, Quaids character was awful, as I expect he was meant to be.

    Amulet. 2020

I'm a bit of a sucker for British horror movies and this was recommended to me. Written and Directed by Romola Garai and with Imelda Stauntion and looked interesting

A complete, utter crock of shit. How the fuck it gets 4.9 on IMDB is beyond me.

Roger Moore sounded like a bloody good rooster in interviews.

Really nice guy too by all accounts.

Took the Mrs to 'Wicked'. Just awful from what I saw. To be fair I slept through the 2nd half so maybe it picked up, who knows.
