Black Caps vs England Series

@nzzp I’m less concerned about the personnel more about the strategy to break up a partnership or contain

how we use our bowlers in the difficult periods.
Drop Southee, play Santner, WOR, Henry and one of Kyle (if fit), Smith or Sears.
Simple?
If you look back on the series you probably have to argue that Santner outperformed Phillips. So maybe Phillips should be under threat, although I think Santner has already been tried at 7 and wasn't so successful.

I fail to see the point of Philips. Not good enough at bowling, doesn't contribute enough with the bat and has brain farts I the field. Second thoughts, he's a traditional Black Caps all-rounder

As a massive fan of all facets of Philips play I have to admit they’re all falling away at the same time.
I hope he can come right. He did fuck all vs England, one 50 and a fantastic catch with no wickets isn’t a series to write home about

On paper he could be quite useful. It seems he hasn't worked himself out yet, or not been given the best chance to succeed. Batting at 7 and being used as a part time bowler must be confusing. Maybe they should pick him in one discipline, tell him it's his main role and see what happens? Personally, I'd give him more responsibility with the bat if he was to be picked again.

Yeah Blundell hundred hasn’t done Phillips chances of batting six much good

well played NZ, a good series of some mixed quality cricket, some sharp bowling, some big innings by some genuinely excellent, generational, players along with some terrible fielding, some shocking shots and some questionable commitment from England. England as inspiring and frustrating as ever, New Zealand with some very good players and some gaps to fill, so too England really.
Pleased to see Southee go out with a win, always liked watching him play and seems like a good fella off the field. Lovely to see him hit a few sixes too.
Watching England play Test Cricket in New Zealand is always a treat, beautiful grounds, full banks, great atmosphere, green grass, blue skies and a bit of movement off the pitch. If only you could work out how to play it at a time where it doesn't entirely destroy my sleep patterns.
Can you just stop it ?
Rival sports fans aren’t supposed to be so nice
east to be a magnanimous prick when you've just won a series, I'm a fluffybunny when we lose

I have to admit, I hate bazball.
If losses don't matter, or draws don't matter, then do wins matter?
But mostly, I hate seeing my bowlers getting carted around for 90 overs ....
Also, as a fan of bowling and the real reason I watch cricket at all , I find dismissals caught in the ring or outfield as sexy as susan boyle dressed as a page boy.
But, secretly, I suspect it actually kind of works. Certainly it is more effective than the terrible top 3 England had in the 3 or 4 years before bazball. E.g. bazball-Crawley is 50% better than non-bazball-Crawley. And I suspect NZ would have found similar for Martin Guptill.
However. On Indian dustbowls I think bazball is great fun, and I think it is a good approach. Despit NZ winning 3 nil with orthodox and classy Will Young approach. So, ... fuck knows ???
There are two things I hate about Bazball..
- The fucking name. Just forget it.
- Some of the quotes coming out of the England camp. It just gives the wrong impression. Don't care about losses? Fuck off. Of course you do but I don't think that is what you actually meant to say. How about saying "We're not afraid to risk losing in order to try and force a win".
In reality this brand of Test Cricket is not new. The Aussies have been playing hard, attacking cricket for decades - and the WI before them. Maybe England have dialled it up a bit more and of course there are some more adventurous shots around now that wouldn't have been considered in years gone by. The big difference though is that it is England playing this way when the mantra was "we're not afraid to draw if it means we might not actually lose". For this much credit must go to Rob Key who has given coach, skipper and therefore the team the licence to play this way and the structures and consistency to assist and reward a positive attitude.

He's made me think he's a really promising batsman. Just not delivered on that in this series.
The bowling and fielding is a bonus.
I want him to deliver on his primary role, which because of my fanboi-ing I'm sure he can ...
