All Blacks vs Ireland

Bit of a defining performance from Aumua. I think he is benefiting from finally getting some minutes.
Set piece was spot on. And his work with ball running and heavy tackling is second to none.
His long pass to Jordan at pace was a thing of beauty.
Thought Dmac was good. Always a little hot and cold. But did have some nice meters with the boot. And of course a couple went too short.
Solid team defense, everyone working hard and good systems.
Nothing too innovative but enough to put away the #1 team at home. I’ll take it. -

Gibson Park finally admitted defeat in the follicular stakes any way.
The previous aerial shots showing his Friar Tuck look was never going to last.
Also I forgot he starred in Mars attacks!

Berry having a laugh the last ten minutes.
First the not straight throw against Aumua when WR made a big song and dance about the no jump law, then the Clarke kick which couldn't have been any clearer it was touched. Not even on the fly decisions. Cripes.
He spent most of the game kissing the Irish on the dick. Warned them with YCs for constant infringing and sent a total of zero oirish to the bin for continued infringing

Great win I thought, where strangely enough, I feel like the conditions suited us more, as it really stunted Ireland's ability to use the ball. Have to agree with people criticising Nic Berry. He was awful, and Ireland used it to their advantage, having said that, Ratima got away with a blatant strip on the ground on Aki so bad calls were going both ways.
How good was Aumua? He was probably my man of the match, closely followed by Sititi. Man he was into everything. Carried strongly, smashed players, and won a couple of turnovers too. Is he a better starter (not suggesting he starts every test)? Sititi was strong as usual. His carries get us out of trouble a lot, he really uses his shoulders well before going into contact with ball in hand as you see defenders get bumped off constantly by him and his work on defence too. Wins a lot of ball back.
The side we're putting out currently is a lot stronger than what we had previously been putting out earlier in the season too, especially the bench, and funnily enough, injury has been the cause of a fair few changes. It's gone from looking extremely bland with journeymen to actually looking like a strength all of a sudden.
7 is probably the only wide open spot right now once Cane leaves. I'd love to see Lakai get given a go. Obviously Ardie will always be 8 regardless of how good or bad he's going, but I think Finau, Lakai and Sititi is the future. Would love to see it one day.

Saw this on an Irish forum
« and they have found a huge talent in Wallace Sititi ... he's the player that Akira Ioane threatened to be as an U20. »
Couldn’t agree more.

What a difference a couple of months makes. EB breaks and makes way for Sititi who is a natural at test level, lots of young guys stepping up. If Lakai is given a chance next season, and takes off like Wallace, we will quickly forget about Sotutu as well

That Lowe 50-22 had me bricking. At that point I got out of the chair. Watched the remainder standing.
Lowe was celebrating that 50-22 as if they had just won a RWC QF.
Aki was worse for the in-goal tackle on Cane - think that was what Rieko was talking to him about at full-time.

The D in the final was immense too. Short handed for almost a whole game

That Nisbo stat is insane, he’s called 54% of all AB tests.
It is but then you realise When did he start calling tests nearly 40 years ago, that the rugby world was a very different place and when the ABs toured they would play 15 matches and only 2/3 would be tests.
Since then the ABs pretty much just play test matches and a lot of thsm. It’s like McCaw when he retired, had played akin a ridiculously high % of AB tests

Ireland's error-strewn performance
13 penalties conceded
30 missed tackles
21 handling errors
11 turnovers conceded
5 rucks lost
3 line-outs lost
1 scrum lostGreat defence does that to the opposition.

The fact is Ireland have long been put on a completely undeserved pedestal by NZ's rugby media (and many people on here) simply because they beat Foster's shambles of a team (pre-Ryan/Schmidt) in 2021 and 2022 home series.
In reality, they're not a hugely talented side, they are full of plodders that wouldn't get anywhere near an All Black 15.
They have relied on the existing cohesion of Leinster and their streamlined and well structured high performance pathways and streamlined coaching at all levels to get to where they have - not x factor players.
France, South Africa, and even England have much more talented squads on paper. and their team composition & style of game in my opinion pose a greater threat to us than Ireland (even though they're ranked No1.)
In Summary, NZ rugby fans/media gave Ireland far too much respect in recent years and Foster is much to blame.
I'm glad we can finally bring this chapter to a close - they are overrated & always have been, especially on here.

I remember the look of confusion and panic on the faces of our midfield when the Irish ran through us to claim the series win in NZ. Rieko and JB slammed the door on them this time

Shane Horgan - "South Africa on their day would have pumped this All Blacks team tonight"
Is he trying to say we beat a poor Ireland side by not playing that great ourselves?
What would they have done too this Irish team then?
For large parts of that game we were pretty frustrating, so if Shane Horgan thinks we pulled out a miracle performance then it is just fanciful.
Lot of growth to come still in this All Black side. Now to go to Paris and stop the rot against France. If we can do that then this team can really kick on next year.

Jordan's strike rate is absolutely incredible. Ireland contained him well overall but he just always manages to find a way to get over the try-line - Cullen like in that regard.
Currently has the second highest strike rate (tries per game) of any player with more than 30 tries - behind Ohata (who comes with the minnow caveat).
Will doubtless come back to the pack a bit toward the end of his career, but a decent shot not just being NZ's highest try scorer, but all time - although that Georgian will doubtless score lots more.
Will has drawn level with Jonah and Rieko today, played fractionally under half Rieko's games.
If Reiko has stayed on the wing, no doubt he would be the AB record holder by now…

I'm not so sure that is the whole story.
They have lost their RWC generals which would wound any side but they are so well-coached they'll stay competitive. Whether they now have that sting in their tail like they did in 2022-2023 is another story. -

I was very happy with that grinding win. I loved the fact that when they kept infringing we just kept piling on the points.
The new following kick interpretations are doing my head in. Jordie ran a straight line to the ball and got pinged. Then for one kick Telea essentially had to zig zag around Irishmen, whereas last week the ref was calling out make a path. WTF is going on?
That penalty against jordie must have been a wrong call by berry, because if that was not allowed, rugby is going to be kickby. Box kicks will be everywhere

We’ve seen an increasing amount of Hollywood dives from the Boks in this area, under the old rules.
Under these new rules, this will go into overdrive. It will be like the golden age of Hollywood under Rassie!
