Spent two out of the past four days in the gym with punishing workouts. Today's was particularly needed since work sucked bigtime and I needed to work out the stress, and I feel mellow as a hippy now. Can feel the biceps bulging. Still a ways off my goal weight but on the right track again.

Watched a pretty interesting thing about metabolisms tonight and all the shit we put in ourselves that hurts it. Think it may have put me off having a breakfast during the Aussie-SA match at the pub - may go eat muesli at home instead, toss in some almonds and be set for several hours.

Not giving up my Guinness though...

Given that my current best for 30 mins is 6,678 metres, I'll only be good enough at propping up the table.

However, I'm improving slowly. Up 500m since first attempt.
i cant even row for 30 mins yet mate, 15 is my best so far... you're a machine in my books...

have read / heard / that doing that 20 minute aerobic thing after weights will force you body to use the fat as energy, as you will have used all the glycogen in the muscles already in thw weights session - something lie that anyway, sounded like it made sense to me.

eating - I've found a simple plan. If your hungry, and feel like a pie, have a bread role, and so forth. Downgrade your cravings!! Also avoid fatty foods wqhen eating out, make a concious choice to order healthy foods, or as healthy as you can at the time / venue you are at. Diet fizzy drinks - I am a martyr to coke, or was, then a martyr to diet coke, now a martyr to coke zero, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

smaller portions etc - all the shit your trainiers is saying is right, it just sucks having to do it!!

Mrs BartMan just finisihg Jenny Craig - not that she bloody needed it, and they reckon it takes ten days to show up a bad day, but fuck - calories in an out, isn't that what it is all about. Just a good myth perhaps that all the weight loss schemes like to keep burning??

Perhaps if you're looking at an average no-exercise diet that gets the rest of its protein from half a kilogram of lentils at a sitting while wearing a kaftan and dancing to tambourine music. Is this the same flatmate-whose-mother-is-a-dietician that I have derided in the past? :nta Fucking hippies. Most medicine (including diet management) is not an exact science. The man is trying to lose flab and one of the best ways is to build muscle. The best source of protein for this is red meat, and 200g every other day (mixed with pork and chicken) will not kill you, provided you have a decent amount of fibre and masticate properly. I'm feeding an athlete here, not a fucking rabbit.
Interesting, I will seek to redress this by eating a bit more meat for lunch when she's not around.

I was cooking 200g of scotch fillet on Saturday night and she came in and said "you're going to eat that all yourself?!?!". I sure did, with some curried rice and rocket salad and fuck me it went down a treat.

I try to have her up about her rabbit-like dietary requirements but she always replies with "shut up, my mother is a dietician".

So GF, did you lose the weight? And I thought the Byron Bay festival was in April?

What if it's a male nurse in high heels?
I mean, you're not gonna care until afterwards but after a few times your brain will start to equate male nurses in high heels sticking things into your back end, with feeling good, could be the start of some very worrying psychological problems!!
Ah yes, and not to mention the old short, slippery slope downward toward the inevitable fate of a black neoprene gimp suit, leather whips and being locked up in some pervert's basement...

  • Anyone here rowing on a concept 2??

Update on my concept 2 experience. Under the custom list I have been regulary doing the 1 on 1 off 2 on 2 off.. up to 4 and back. It's a total of 16 mins rowing over a 31 minute period.

That may seem like fuck all, but I assure you for an unfit b'stard like me... it's plenty.

Over the course of about 6 weeks, I've gradually built it up so I'm rowing now about 20 minutes of the 31 minute period. Distances have gone up from 3,800m in total to 4,700m which I'm stoked with. At the moment I start 15 seconds early and finish 15 seconds late on each of the rowing intervals.

Next target is 5,000m which I'm hoping to do this weekend. I'll imagine I'll have to do about 21-22 mins rowing for this depending on what pace I'm setting. I average about 2:08 p/500m I suppose and usually have the setting on 7. To say that I am going to row 5,000m is something which I never ever thought I'd be able to say, so I'm stoked with it. Noticed the other day whilst playing squash that my fitness has improved a lot as well.

Also been using an HR monitor and it generally goes up to abot 160-165 whilst rowing and usually drops back to about 120 during the downtimes (depending on how hard I push). A couple of weeks back I did the last minute at a rate of 1:40 and almost died - the HR was at 180+!

heres another thought: hire a bike

I hired a mountain bike from a cycle shop down the road from the walky... watched the abs vs ireland game, hired a bike, rode to wimbledon, watched the safas v scotland and rode back... its outdoors, you get to explore sides of the city you wouldnt usually see (and the women in the sun) plus its a workout. its not the cheapest option (depending on the rental fare) but its a very enjoyable way of getting cardio.Â

Lost the biggest bet of my life this week. The stake was a Marathon. I hate running with a passion, but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't honor the bet. I wish I bet a triathalon or half Ironman as I am an ok swimmer and cyclist <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> No time limit as to when it is to be done, but I figure that the sooner I do it the better. Will aim for the Rotorua Marathon next year... whenever that is.
best thing i ever did for my running was set a goal - run a marathon. will it happen - i dont know. but i got a couple of books with programs for marathon training and they make it seem very acheivable.

basic premise is to not over train and take it gradually... the entire course in one book takes 18 weeks which is not a long time at all... the inifinte number of tips you get from these books on distance running is invaluable. the success rates for first time marathoners are very re-assuring too.
i also just got a book on the alexander technique which seems really good, i havent had a chance to really dig into it but it concentrates on proper running form to maximise efficiency and minimise potential injury.

anyhoo, if i ever get to the 18th week and run a marathon - it wud be a major milestone for me... plus id prolly be alot leaner (dont see too many pie eaters running marathons)

Yeah thanks True Blue.....now you've planted the seed of doubt in my mind, I'll let it gnaw away at me for a little while, and then when I'm feeling suitably motivated, I'll go and fork out for the book. I'm very impressionable too, so once I've read the book, it will be "Goodbye Winfield". <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

so not only do you smoke, but you smoke disgusting cigarette's as well!

I used to socially puff on a ciggie (Marlboro lights only, like the poser I am) when drinking until one day I realised I was going through more cigarettes than drinks on a night out... So without reading the book I decided to quit, right there on the spot.

3 months now.. going strong! I truly believe that smoking is a psychological thing in that if you 100% really want to give up, you can. But you have to be 100% behind it.. 99.99% and you'll fail.

Don't hit the piss much anymore but when I do I find Schnitzel 😕, rice and a big glass of milk do the trick.

But as Duluth says, if you're going to scoff beer you might as well make it your cheat day as well.
I'm with you there mate. A piece of fried, crumbed schnitzel with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on wholemeal bread will do the trick. It obviously has some fat in it but also some healthy components and will be filling enough for the booze. A shop at the Australia Square food court (Uncles Old-time something?) used to do the best one of these sandwiches I've ever eaten. I had many of these before heading out on the town. :nta
mmmm Schnitzel.

Schnitzel is great. Tastes good of course but is also pretty healthy
[/quote:2zyueyzu]

I had a great piece of schnitzel last weekend in berlin though I doubt its fat busting properties as it was as big as my head and about half and inch thick and came with a mountain of chips, god it was good though.
