I hate to pull out useless statistics, but this is a new low for the 'sloe (in modern times). 
 
The Aussies scored one try and 17 points in 160 minutes of rugby the last two Saturdays. The last time the Aussies scored fewer than 17 points against the ABs over consecutive weekends was August 1964 - losing 14-9 and 18-3 at Carisbrook and Lancaster Park. They scored a try in each game.
 
In consecutive games (the first in 1972 and the other in 1974) we beat them 38-3 and 11-6 in Sydney and Auckland respectively with the Aussies scoring one try over the pair of games.
 
In one of those games in each pair, the Aussies were at least in with a chance of winning / drawing as time expired i.e. they lost by two five point margins.

BOD was retweeting about it with the reverse angle, which is even worse than the first angle. So there's that.
 
 
In any case, the ARU has it at their option to get it reviewed I think? The match review official can either refer an incident on his own, or from either team.
 
Douglas didn't make a big deal out of it at the time, because he looked to care more about getting the ball. Rumour is he didn't want to make a big deal of it after the match either. I have no way of verifying or disproving that rumour. 
 
However, the ARU would be doing a poor job of player welfare if they DIDN'T refer the incident.

I agree with all above, it looks very bad, and I think it aint gonna go away, these things need to be done by correct process (which by SANZAR rules, it has) rather than trial by social media

At best it's a penalty. I'm always reticent to jump on a twitter/ reddit jerkathon on the basis of a single frame. I don't see why a player should be thrown under the bus to assuage the drooling retards. Is anyone having a cry about this?

Poite should have immediately penalised Franks for playing the head of an opponent. Kane Douglas's lack of reaction to that as opposed to his clear annoyance at Franks applying pressure to his neck in the same maul is telling. So is that the Wallabies didn't refer it to the citing commissioner.

Agree totally, and if you can give me video about Coleman going at that AB player's face, I'll certainly consider it in the same light as Franks having multiple attempts at Douglas' head. 
 
Because that is the issue with Franks - he goes left arm over the shoulder/neck and Poite warns him (which he doesn't hear because its loud). Its when he releases any firm hold, and just decides the face is the better target, that I have issue with

I agreed with Hansen overall: sometimes in a maul you can't see where your hands are going in the first instance. But this is not an accident. 
 
If the ARU aren't going to stick their oar in the water, and Douglas doesn't want to make a big deal out of it, then OK.

Yeah. My line is like what I've said here: The ref was fucking awful. He gave us a warning after two unrelated incidents late in the game, but didn't warn the ABs for either infringement in their red zone. Didn't change the game, but the inconsistency is shit. Just look at the scrums alone: you know with Poite that if its your ball, you're basically getting a free ride. Then suddenly he's inventing or ignoring other stuff.
 
The lack of action on Douglas is fucked. I think beyond the incident itself, its a bit of bullshit if World Rugby are all "No Neck Rolls at RWC2015!" and then not picking the things they can easily pick as a marker for future things.
 
Imagine what happens if, two weeks from now, some Argie gets his hand in Read's face, and gets sat down for 6 weeks? Fark...
 
The systems we have aren't good enough, ultimately, and I've made that pretty clear on GAGR. In part because it pisses off the school ties when I tell them their systems are fucked ;)

What I see is Franks going over the shoulder and making incidental contact with the head, then playing the head for which he should have been penalised. Poite saw it, called for him to stop which he did.
 
Let me be clear about this:

<li>I don't think there was a gouge.</li>
<li>If the Wallabies believe there was contact with the area around the eye, let alone a gouge, they should have referred it to the citing commissioner - they didn't.</li>

A lot of the reffing was mystifying, but please don't fall in to the trap of "we lost, so he was harsher on us" (i know you're not, but your getting dangerously close). There were more than a few things that happened that should have been in our favour, but we tend to ignore because the game was going our way. 
 
I'm not commenting on teh Douglas thing any more, because the officials obviously have more info than any of us, no governing body is going to ignore something that blatant for fear of the publicity. I suspect the twitter-based official appeal is pending anyway. I thought the Coles clean out penalty was soft as all fuck. 
 
It was a messy, niggly, shitty game, with a heap of off (and on) the ball stuff going on all over the park, and far, far too much mouth. And at the risk of upsetting Nick, i believe it was at the instigation of the Wallabies, and I'm disappointed in us for getting involved at all.
