Bledisloe I (All Blacks team room bugged)

I think you misread that as I did when I first read it.
I think he was contracted by the AB's to provide security ... and he's been paid off on the side to plant a bug by somebody else.
Not contracted by the AB's to plant a bug. Despite what the Matt Rowleys of this world believe, I'm not into ridiculous conspiracy theories.
-
Could also be the he had a plan to work as a private contractor, with information for sale?
Strange.

@MajorRage think thats what I said, if he is contracted to the ABs as security and paid by a third party...I was giving the other option as, well, thats what Aussie media suggested at one time wasnt it, ie that it was planted by the ABs, when the Aussie cops said they hadnt ruled that out...
-
It's getting even crazier; see the last sentence below ...
A SECURITY consultant tasked with protecting the New Zealand rugby team has been charged in relation to the discovery of a bugging device in the All Blacks’ team rooms last year. After six-month investigation, detectives charged 51-year-old Adrian Gard with public mischief after over allegations he planted a listening device in a chair in All Blacks team room at the Intercontinental Hotel in Double Bay in August last year. Gard was the man said to have been hired by Schapelle Corby to protect the convicted drug smuggler’s lucrative media deal back in 2014.
-
So if he was the security consultant who did the sweep for the bug ?

@booboo
Perhaps he planted it, then "found it"... thereby justifying his own job?@Stargazer
That initial response from Hansen is truly bizarre... he'd have to be genuinely shocked to come out like that. -
@Stargazer said in Bledisloe I (All Blacks team room bugged):
What the heck?
ARU still managing to play the victim.

The guy possibly misjudged the fallout. -
@Stargazer said in Bledisloe I (All Blacks team room bugged):
When that comment from Hansen came out you could pretty quickly rule out anyone from the ARU being involved.

That's the sort of thing you get when you have corporate types running the show.

Pulver is an imbecile. Recently he said the Sydney sevens was the most complex event ever run.
Aside from scheduling issues, the main challenge for the ARU with the Sevens is to ensure its longevity remains, with Wellington a cautionary tale for how quickly tournaments can lose their novelty.
“It is an example of how you can't rest on your laurels, you have to keep re-energising your event and keep it fresh"
“I suspect it would have been the most complex event, logistically, I have ever seen.
“It actually blows my mind. I'm not sure there would have ever been a more complex event to run and it went off without a hitch."
Quite bizarre.
Tew ain't perfect, but it could be so much, much worse.
-
@Frye We have a corporate game here in the UK called "Wankword Bingo". At any tedious corporate meeting the players each get a small bingo card but instead of numbers you get corporate speak phrases like:
Blue sky thinking
Pushing the envelope
Energisingetc etc.
It sounds like with Pulver giving the talk the shouts of Housey-Housey and Bingo would be heard many times over.

It was YUGE!

Sky News going big on "It was the All Blacks themselves" "They accused the Wallabies they did they did".
Forgetting there was never ANY accusation.
And it IS a dirty Aussie who has been arrested and charged.
-
Of course they are ... I'm just glad they found the culprit and looking forward to hearing why he did it.
-
This is going to go nowhere - pretty low level stuff in the criminal court. Max 1 year jail, $2k fine. Unless this guy has a rap sheet going already he will breeze through with a small fine and suspended sentence.
Then it all comes down to whether the NZRU proceed with a civil suit. That's when potentially more information could come to light.
The company website says he used to be head of security at ANZ Stadium. I'm inclined to think he runs in the same circles as plenty of people who would be interested in this information.
-
@rotated which begs the question, has he done it before and not been uncovered....

You can either read Peter Fitzsimons making a tool of himself[again] or stare at this gif for a while.
I've made my choice and I'm comfortable with it -
@jegga The upvote is for the gif.
Then I read the offending article you clever fuck! The aids looking victim with the constant blood soaked bandage on the lobotomy makes two egregious errors:
- Kiwi fans didn't 'darkly insinuate' anything. The Aussie press were the ones making insinuations. For someone writing a bunch of books you'd think he'd know the difference between imply and insinuate.
- The All Blacks management took pains to avoid implying a single thing.
What rankles most is, he is of course, correct. Deeply concerned at their remarkable display in Super Rugby and whitewash against England, we were left with nothing else but to throw them off on gameday by accusing them of cheating...
-
the very worst part of that "article" was Fitz repeatedly using the term "humble" to describe himself.
Good gif though.
-
Sorry, what am I missing here?
This seems to have been all opened up and everybody is saying we owe apologies etc ... ? Exactly why?
So it turns out the bug was planted by the security hired by NZ ... exactly what does that prove? It doesn't say why he did it, does it. Nobody insinuated that the Aussies even did it - all of what I read at the time, is that most people viewed it was book makers who were behind it. Nothings changed there.
And lets not put this beside the underarm incident. They aren't even related, in any way, shape or form.
Fitzsimons (whose looking very good these days btw), is just stirring as usual, all in good fun. But Pulver can get fucked.
-
How batshit over the top would the Aussie media go if a bug was found in an Aussie hotel room while they were preparing for a test at Eden Park or Twickenham?
It's logical to suspect the host country when this kind of thing happens, who else had the most to gain?
-
I don't mind Peter Fitz at times but hate it when he does these sarcastic pieces. They seem designed to make a stupid point while being able to claim that he 'was only joking'.
-
I prefer Fitz response to Paul ...
Who cares what relations are like. We've owned the Bledisloe for 14 years, thats why the Aussies are dirty on us. Nothing else.
Bledisloe games have always been filled with animosity.
-
The thing that's pissing me off the most about all this is
I have to keep looking at Dagg put that ball down with one hand. Better players than you have cocked that up son. Two fucking hands aye?

Remember that time it happened to Cully? that was a Bled test wasn't it?
Or is my aged memory failing me again?
-
@Crucial it definitely happened to Cully, but I remember it as a Canes game in NSW?

Yep, I think you may be right. Possibly even the same game Lomu was Red Carded (two YCs. Late tackle and deliberate knock on)?
-
Google confirms.
v Waratahs, Sydney 2002.
But not the Lomu RC game. That was 2000 and was a spear tackle on Nathan Grey followed by a deliberate knock on
-
@mariner4life @Crucial canes v tahs. Jonah did similar in same game

A spear tackle on Nathan Grey should be rewarded not punished

I was nearly going to say that as well. IIRC it was a funny one. Would probably get a RC instantly now but it was a case of Grey being completely manhandled by the bigger Lomu. There was no apparent intention to spear just what would now be deemed a lack of care taken to bring him to ground safely.
