Hurricanes 2017 - Can they go back to back?
-

well if they hadnt choked last year, they'd have gone back to back and this thread would be about gunning for a three-peat! ;)

Canes4life - In this morning's Dominion Post, Chris Boyd is quoted that there is only two spots to fill for 2017 - didn't say what positions, or back, or forward.

One of them is easy to find : it's Nr.8 where Vito is leaving.
-

Assuming that they haven't already filled the position in the seven months since Victor announced his leaving in January, then you could be right.

Unlike British football signings, rugby signings are not announced immediately.
-

while they totally deserved their victory and are a good side , I dont see them as being head and shoulders better than the other NZ sides ,

Things clicked at the right moment for them , like it it did for the highlanders last year ,

I see another close race coming again , with the team hitting form into the home straight taking it
-

I think what the rugby sevens is showing us is that the Canes have used up about two decades of rugby joy and, as a result, the rest of us are to be inflicted with their misery deficit.

Olympic silver medallist Niall William's brother is out of the Rugby Championship and that's a harbinger of the doom about to befall us. An early loss, then Hansen will get confused and try to fix things by breaking the cardinal AB rule of "No more than three Canes on the field". Before we know it we'll be camping at the poultry farm looking for tactics and waving goodbye to the Bled.
-

I was about to give you a like but then I clicked a third of the ABs on the field at the start of the 2015 final were Hurricanes and we finished the match with only 3 Crusaders on the field. ;)
-

That's a good point. Given the Crusaders title drought the rule may need to be amended to "no more then three Crusders on the field".

So that leaves room for Whitelock, Read and Franks. Seems about right.
-

Yes - an incredible oversight by Hansen, but one he attempted to remedy at halftime through the otherwise inexplicable subbing of Conrad.
-

Bloody hell Chris, I didn't think you'd blunder straight into this one like Custer - the match finished with 5 Canes on the field as well.
-

No - Nonu had been on Hammer's conditioning programme to try to knock the Caneness out of him.

Even though he'd come back, Gilbert Enoka had made up some of those tapes you listen to while you're asleep, "Remember....you're a Blue, Ma'a...a Blue Ma'a.

I have it on good authority that the conversation on the morning of the final went something like:

Smithy: We might be in trouble Shag. Ma'a's wandering around with his underpants on his head saying he's a bloomer.

Shag: Still better than having him think he's a Cane.

Jules of course was under strict instructions to take no part in the match.
