I'm a big Neesham fan, more so than Anderson, but I just don't see him being fit enough long term. He's had a pretty solid T20 campaign for Derby this year (less so ODIs)

At least no one has tried to wedge Jesse Ryder in yet.

Yeah I think I finally gave up on the dreams of a Williamson/Taylor/Ryder 3/4/5 last year. Sigh. If only.

On conversations on here I picked us to be discussing the latter two as NZers who could threaten 50 averages, one still might and another emerged who will be the best of them all.
-

"De Villiers, Morkel ruled out of NZ Tests"

result for us

also:

"Afrikaans-language newspaper Rapport claimed CSA have agreed on six players of colour in every starting XI, of which at least two must be black African. In this squad, South Africa have seven players of colour which includes two black Africans."

very....political (although Rabada and Bavuma are there actually there on merit I guess? I imagine they'd both be in anyway)
-

sorry, I meant 88/8.

Australia lucky to avoid the follow on You go away for half an hour, and this happens? Herath with 4, the other spinner with 3

Herath with a hat trick apparently! Voges Neville Starc... Caught, LBW, LBW
-

a test hatrick. Nice

And Pakistan are all over England in the 3rd test as well.
-

And Aus rolled for 106 with a deficit of 175.

Now time for SL to crush them and then spin them out again in the second innings. 9 wickets falling to spin for the Aussies ... suddenly looking like a soft underbelly.
-

2 down, 1 each to their seamers. Starc and Hazlewood can take wickets anywhere

Suddenly looks like a soft underbelly? Did you miss their last tour to India?
-

For a team that is clearly No 1 in the test rankings, yes!
-

yea, that's what i am saying, it's not "suddenly" at all, they can't play spin to save their lives.

They went to India in 2013 and got pounded 0-4. They played Pakistan away and got fucking hammered 0-2, now they are in Sri Lanka and getting fucked.

They may be the #1 side, but that's built on them being very fucking good in Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. They're shit in England, and terrible on the South continent (or the middle east i guess)
-

Games like this where runs are so damn valuable are far better to watch. Flat decks don't make for interesting cricket generlaly.

Could not agree more. Scores of 300 - 400 make for a brilliant game to watch, and when a batsmen gets a ton it means so much more.
-

And reduces the obsession with statistics in general and averages in particular. A 50 in this game is like a big hundred elsewhere.

Good for Sri Lanka for preparing pitches that do something.

-
I can't believe the Galle of the sri Lankans preparing turning tracks when the Aussies don't like them.

I note Mitch stark has 11 wickets - gives zero fucks about whether the pitch is not pace friendly.

Sorry, starc.

And on names, there are two ceylonians named M Perera. Luckily they distinguish themselves by their middle names. The batsman is MDKJ Perera and the spinner is MDK Perera.

So, an update for y'all.

Aus are 25/3 chasing 413 with three days left. In simple terms, that's the end of the test, the series and the Murali-Warne trophy. How ironic to lose the trophy named after two of the greatest spinners of all time, by not being able to play spin :)

Aussie batsmen are showing repeated failures. Aussie quicks are deadly - Starc getting 11 in the match is remarkable. But really, couldn't happen to a nicer team. They are always so chirpy... :P
-
