It will be interesting to see which of the current eleven core teams (Australia, NZ, Canada, England, USA, France, Russia, Fiji, Spain, Ireland and Brazil) will drop out next year and make way for Japan. With half of the women's series played, a top 9 seems to be forming, with one of the remaining two teams (Spain & Brazil) most likely to drop out.

The men's qualifier will also be played this weekend. With 6 of the 10 tournaments played, Russia & Japan are the two countries (out of 15 core teams) fighting to keep their core status.

Too quick to give him half a metre.

What was Mikkelson yellow carded for? Didn't see him do anything wrong.

Mikkelson off with, what looks like, a serious injury.

What an amazing pass - the one inside to set up that final try.

Nice early impact on attack by Ravouvou. Not sure he can defend much but nice to have some more attacking mojo out there. Iopu Aso was terrible.

Good to see NZ win their first game 19 to 7. Didn't look to become such a score at half time. Ravouvou looked promising, Waakaa made a big impact off the bench, too. Not so good to see Mikkelson leaving the field injured; hopefully it's not too bad. He was easily the best player on the field.

Some of these Fijian players are so huge! No way of stopping them, esp for these Japanese players!

Didn't see the game, but the AB7s have just smashed Japan 40 to 14.

That bloody game. We should have won it. A bit salty that the ref didn't hand Fiji a yellow for persistent penalties but we had our chance to win it.

That was a bullshit call that gave Fiji the penalty (and then the try) just before half time as well. How he saw an obstruction / crossing there beggars belief and could have ended in a try to NZ. Conceivably a 14 point error by Craig Evans who I would prefer never reffed NZ again. Only his 12th match so could improve - he needs to.

    WTF Te Tamaki...
