Waikato could still be playing at home this Sat, depending on Thursday's decision. And one more RS defence for Hawke's Bay.

Otago to get a challenge if Waikato win as well.

The Magpies v Taniwha match does not appear to be a RS match. So maybe the Otago match wont be either?

Edit: I finally read the write up above and yep any extra round matches are not mandatory Shield matches.

Waikato v Otago is a scheduled game though, so a possibilty to add more spice to the remaining games.

@Nepia Hawke's Bay-Waikato was originally to be played in Rd 4 and Waikato-Otago in Rd 6. NH misses out on a RS challenge.

Did you not see my second Edit?

At any rate it's not going to be a Shield game either way. 😉

I did, but I read the facts first. 😉

All I am saying is that they are following the sequence of the original draw, where possible.

Boo to no promotion/relegation (from a very biased point of view... haha) Seriously though, good to get some rugby continuing for the provinces that can.

Am I misunderstanding or are Canterbury & Waikato getting an extra competition points game over other teams?

They've played 5 - and get 4 full points games available in that draw above. Total of 9.

Hawke's Bay have played 5, and only get 3 full points games. Same with BOP. Total of 8.

Wellington have played 6, and get 2 full points games. Same with Ta$man. Total of 8.

@foobanz depends who they were due to play out of Counties/NH & Auckland, given Counties and NH are in the Championship, possibly one or 2 prem sides that may not have had either, or if they played them already.

I think Southland benefits in that they were down to play all 3 teams, so get shared points form them all, although means jack in the greater scheme of things.

@foobanz Waikato played and beat NH in Rd 1 so will only get 2 pts from the game against Auckland. Canterbury played and lost to Auckland, also in Rd 1. They will get 2 pts from their game against CM.

The sharing of 4 pts is only for the games to be played after the initial covid break.

    @foobanz They probably are.

I guess they are the two teams that played one of the Auckland region teams in the first two rounds pre-covid and were scheduled to NOT play one of the other Auckland teams in the rest of the comp.

They'll presumably play an extra game against a Div II team, so something of an advantage with decent prospects of earning an extra 3 points.

Annoyingly for Ta$man, we took 4 points from Auckland (bound to be the hardest of the three), but will have to split the points with Counties and Harbour, which should have been easier games.

Typical clickbait headline, but I think Barnes should think of the teams that are most affected by the whole Covid situation, and it's not Taranaki. It's the provinces in the Auckland region. He's whingeing a bit too much. Compare what Barnes is saying with the statement from Peter Russell in that article.

Not actually a click bait head line, for once. He had a huge moan that it's "shit" & because of the big unions. But he's being a dick, without a full season you can't have promotion, that would be stupid. Like giving certain countries auto access to finals....

It's good that Barnes is criticising NZR about the entire NPC format of not having one division.

I'll add that we shouldn't have SFs and finals either. Just play out the round robin and end the competition there. No winners and no losers.

    Tevita returns to Ta$man

Tevita Koloamatangi’s days in the Mako jersey appeared to be over.

However, following a string of injuries to the team, Tevita was unexpectedly recalled to the squad after a five-year absence.

The former Tongan-international is more than willing to offer his vast experience whether it comes in the form of getting back on Trafalgar Park or simply holding a hit shield for a teammate.

(Again) proof that signing with an Aussie franchise doesn't have to mean that a player is lost to the NPC.

I may have missed something but does anyone know what the go is with the remainder of the NPC?

From the remaining draw here - https://www.provincial.rugby/bunnings-npc/bunnings-npc-fixtures/ it has some teams finishing on 9 competition games played, and others on 8. For example Canterbury have three remaining competition games which will put them at 9, whereas Wellington have 1 comp game and two friendlies meaning they finish up on 8....
