@bovidae UMS have Tana Tuhakaraina and Alex Thrupp invoved, Marist have Mason Tupaea, Kini Fonua, Quinnlan Tupou, Vern Sosefo, Quade Tapsell and Sam Pou involved....thats about all i've been able to find so far. I expect Hautapu and Fraser Tech will supply a fair few players.
Mason is Quinn's younger brother and is a LH prop. He was in the NZ Schools last year and the Chiefs U20s this year. One for the future. Fonua is a lock from Rotorua BHS and has been in Chiefs age-group teams. Tupou a midfielder, also involved in the NZ Schools setup. Tapsell a loose forward who is a few years older than the other players mentioned. Sosefo also a lock, but I'm not familiar with him. Quinn Collard not listed as one of the Marist players.
I would expect Havila Molia to be one of those Fraser Tech players. He was also NZS last year and Chiefs U20s this season. He is probably ready now to be part of the Waikato squad as the 3rd TH prop. Also Te Paea Cook-Savage (utility back).
Others who could be involved are:
Hakaria Richards-Coxhead (TH prop, Melville)
Matt Dobbyn (hooker, Melville)
Te Rama Reuben (No.8, Varsity)
Ben Strang (halfback)
Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong (1st 5/fullback, TA Sports) -

Just went and watched the Waiakto vs BOP dev game in Matamata.
Club was packed, had to park a bit away and walk to get there good to see.
Mainly took notice of Waikato. Both Waikato 10s seemed lost every time they held the ball. So many dumb chip kicks from Waikato, even the forwards were joining in. Lineout wasn't great, both Waikato hookers battled pretty hard. A try was scored by Waikato's Tana Tuhakaraina who's one of the hometown lads so the crowd went nuts.
Players I recognized were Mason Tupaea, James Thompson, George Dyer and the hometown lads Alex Thrupp, Tana Tuhakaraina and Rhys Dickinson (who's technically a hometown boy but doesn't play for UMS.
In BOP I only recognized Stan van den Hoven and maybe Narawa.
Was fucking freezing at the ground but packed. Decent game.
Bay of Plenty took it out 19-10

some more signing for Otago, looks like they're dropping a few at a time building up to the season

Ray Nu'u from Southland after 25 games, 2018-2020.

This Otago team is starting to look rather stacked.
In the midfield alone, we can pick between Sio Tomkinson, Thomas Umaga-Jensen, Ray Nu'u and Matt Faddes.
It is looking like the strongest Otago team we have fielded for at least a decade.
Do feel sorry for Southland losing Nu'u. But it seems it does relate a lot to off-field decisions.

@stargazer really feel for Dale McLeod , on the back of a couple of others the stags have lost .
It just confirms to me how lazy several provinces have got in and around their own player development and are happy to splash out cash to win a title .
It might be a short one or 2 year fix for a bit of glory ,but you just know those particular unions somewhere in the future will get bitten financially.
This does the game no favours in my opinion .. -
@steven-harris This also shows that the Highlanders aren't doing much to help Southland.
-
I wouldn't blame Otago or the Highlanders.
It does appear as if it is a case of a a player putting their personal circumstances first. Working in Dunedin, potentially having a partner living there, it is a fairly big sacrifice going between the two cities for the season.
-
lets also not forget southland have probably splashed some cash on Alaimalo so they're playing the game too and the highlanders would have assisted with that

If that is the case then I would blame them.
