    Just heard on the Breakdown:

Tomorrow, the draws for the NPC, FPC and Heartland will be announced.

And guess what, please, someone send some tranquilizers to our Ta$man faithful ....

Ta$man will get a Shield challenge .. if one of the other challengers hasn't grabbed the Shield before them, that is.

They also mentioned Waikato. I missed the rest.

@yeetyaah Not as Ta$man. According to Wikipedia (assuming that's correct), Marlborough held the Shield in 1973.

@stargazer in that 1973 challenge Marlborough winger Brian Ford scored one of the most unbelievable shield tries , running down the sideline , he ran 60 metres and left the then all black fullback Fergie McCormack in his wake ..

Got a similar one on the same ground two years later for South Island in the inter-island match when he got passed Joe Karam.

@mikedogz isn't this an incredibly early pre season game? The NPC won't start until August or so, surely??

@number-10 I think he was nicknamed the Kaikoura express , was very quick ..should have played far more than 4 tests , in fact I still can’t work out why he never toured South Africa in 1976…the All Black wingers were Bryan Williams ,Grant Batty ,Terry Mitchell and Neil Purvis ..none with what you would say had top end pace ..Ford was quicker than any of these 4 , would have been superb on the hard grounds

I think Ford wouldn’t tour SA in 76 due to his stand against Apartheid if my memory serves me well.

The Invitational Chequebook Baabaas XV gets a challenge too, @Chris-B will need to find new material in his quest for the broken record award.

Thames Valley are playing Mid Canterbury in a Heartland Championship game on Saturday 21st August as a curtain-raiser to Waikato-Taranaki in Hamilton. This will be a triple-header as the other game is Waikato vs Counties Manukau (FPC). All games to be televised.

We get scheduled a challenge in Week 10?

Like you guys aren't going to lose it before then.

I see those Waikato fluffybunnies get their umpteenth challenge since we last had one second up.

Can the Silver Lake deal. If anyone needs evidence that those sleepy fuckers at NZ Rugby couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery....

Look who gets the first challenge, and they aren't even a Premiership team. The other games are just home fixtures.

@bovidae The last time the Magpies held the Shield, we lost it in the final round to Waikato, so there's hope for both Waikato and Ta$man. We defended it successfully against challenges from Northland, North Harbour, Bay of Plenty and Auckland. That last one was hilarious, because the Aucklanders had come with their full squad and had special "Ranfurly Shield winners" jerseys made, which they could throw straight into the bin after the game. 😂

@stargazer I assume teams still get to select their cross-over games so HB have chosen Otago and North Harbour. The others become random based on the draw.

    Otago?

I don't think they've had as many challenges as Waikato since we last had one. Pretty sure you feckers hold that record - 6 or 7.

But, Mark Robinson will be going through his processes and letting the outcome take care of itself.... 🙂
