Just heard on the Breakdown:
Tomorrow, the draws for the NPC, FPC and Heartland will be announced.
And guess what, please, someone send some tranquilizers to our Ta$man faithful ....
Ta$man will get a Shield challenge .. if one of the other challengers hasn't grabbed the Shield before them, that is.
They also mentioned Waikato. I missed the rest.

@stargazer in that 1973 challenge Marlborough winger Brian Ford scored one of the most unbelievable shield tries , running down the sideline , he ran 60 metres and left the then all black fullback Fergie McCormack in his wake ..

Got a similar one on the same ground two years later for South Island in the inter-island match when he got passed Joe Karam.

@number-10 I think he was nicknamed the Kaikoura express , was very quick ..should have played far more than 4 tests , in fact I still can’t work out why he never toured South Africa in 1976…the All Black wingers were Bryan Williams ,Grant Batty ,Terry Mitchell and Neil Purvis ..none with what you would say had top end pace ..Ford was quicker than any of these 4 , would have been superb on the hard grounds

I think Ford wouldn’t tour SA in 76 due to his stand against Apartheid if my memory serves me well.
