Blanket availability of All Blacks is finished, but some could yet be released to their provincial unions in the coming weeks.

Ian Foster’s 35-man national squad, which is set to balloon by another 11 players shortly, formed in Whakatāne on Monday to begin preparing for the two looming Bledisloe Cup tests against Australia on home soil.

Another three-day camp is set for Hamilton next week, before the All Blacks base themselves in Wellington leading into Bledisloe I on October 11.

“All we’ve heard is that there may be some players released on a case-by-case scenario. Exactly when we find out, I’m not sure,” Canterbury coach Reuben Thorne said.

Given players are in camp in Whakatāne through Wednesday, teams shouldn’t expect to be notified before then.

As for when Foster names another 11 players to his whopping squad to travel to Australia for the Rugby Championship in November-December, he indicated last week he would decide in the “next week or two”, giving players ample time to prepare for nine weeks away from home.

Changing of the guard: How the loss of All Blacks will impact each Mitre 10 Cup squad

Changing of the guard: How the loss of All Blacks will impact each Mitre 10 Cup squad

Without All Blacks playing in the Mitre 10 Cup, the competition will lose plenty of its stardust over the coming weeks, and the impact of their departures will differ for each province.

@Duluth I know I keep banging on about this but we would have had 3 or 4 AB tests by now in normal times? I haven't missed them this year. I will miss the Ab's leaving the NPC though and it turning back into the dross we have experienced for the past couple of decades

agreed and otago dont even have any AB's! personally i think it comes down to playing the same teams so often! SA and Aus 2-3 times every year, at least the 6N only play each other once so theres something a bit more special about it

@Hooroo by now ABs would have played all their home tests if the original schedule was followed (including Rugby Championship).

I'm excited for ABs - i'm really interested to see how the new coaching teams go for both ABs and Wallabies and i'm interested to see how the rookies in each team step up to international level.

and I will look forward to seeing all that too when it happens, I just am enjoying this greatly at the moment and haven't missed watching the AB's

@Bovidae those refs are a big downer 😉

A little bit about the rescheduling of M10 Cup games in this article. A NPC curtain raiser in Wellington was suggested. Flights and accommodation will be the main problem.

NZ Rugby is still finalising a reshuffle of cup fixtures and re-booking hotels for those two weekends.
