NPC - news, injuries etc

Stuff article today.
Thomson said his nomadic career was “no accident”, that he was happy with his career in New Zealand – which included the 2011 World Cup win – and it was almost an overseas experience for him. Now back home, he noted every phone call had been a surprise during this return up the ranks in New Zealand, which he also revealed will have him playing for Waikato in this year’s Mitre 10 Cup.

he's playing club rugby for Raglan!
Hautapu couldn't find a spot for Liam in their stacked team?
Messam is a Waikato legend so it's great that he wants to give something back to the province, but we've got some promising loose forwards so I hope this doesn't limit their opportunities.
Time to wind back the clock and restart the 'messam would be an awesome centre or hooker' conversations.. ha

@WillieTheWaiter Do you know when the Waikato squad is named? Locks and halfbacks would be the biggest concerns.
-
@Yeetyaah Roe has been playing for HOB, and I would expect him to be the first choice halfback. I haven't seen either Takarangi or Price listed in club team sheets so perhaps both have left the province or are overseas. Cortez-Lee Ratima and Quintony Ngatai (Charlie's nephew) were the U19 halfbacks last year and are promising players.
Tim Bond is back playing for Morrinsville Sports but not one for the future. I hope McWhannell is available. Burr and Finau could be used as a lock and there is James Thompson and Schneil Singh. Tucker would be a big loss for the season.

This is from the article below about the Hurricanes signing Julian Save for the remainder of SRA:
Savea’s Mitre 10 Cup side is yet to be confirmed, and Wellington Lions have said they are not chasing his signature at this stage.

@Stargazer So Head Coach Holland admits he has not seen him play for a fair while yet for some reason has signed him sight unseen. Surely the local clubs must be asking questions of the body set up to represent them (the WRFU) and who in turn controls ownership of the Hurricanes serious questions over the competence of those involved in such a reckless transaction given their financial constraints.
Interesting to note they are prudent enough not to commit their own funds into employing him for the NPC. Obviously the have no compunction about spending the cash given to them to pay for the salary of Super Rugby players. -
