NPC - news, injuries etc

Listening to the club rugby round-up, apparently Jack Grooby is "gone for the season" with a knee injury. Not sure whether that is just the club season or the NPC as well.
His club, Stoke has recruited a Welsh halfback - former Wales U20 player - Declan Smith - who the Mako will doubtless be looking at. @MiketheSnow
In other bad news, NZs oldest rugby club, Nelson - is only able to field a 17 man team this weekend. I think they were still beating one of the Marlborough clubs at halftime!

Not heard of him, but has had U20 honours.

@Stargazer As long as he stays at the Canes I'm not too fussed on that. I think he will be an All Black in no time anyway so will probably only have his services for a year. Does that mean he is playing for Hawkes Bay this year?
-
@Canes4life Yes, he'll be a Magpie for 2019-2021.
-
@Stargazer that leaves Wellington with only one lock - James Blackwell (and he isn't even a lock). Unless they have managed to sign locks from outside the region - highly doubt it though.
-
@Canes4life Unless Fifita doesn't make the ABs ...

@Stargazer said in Mitre 10 Cup - news, injuries etc:
According to an article in the Hawke's Bay Today, Isaia Walker-Leawere has signed a 3-year contract with Hawke's Bay.
Ah thats good to hear. We can now discuss what we have known about for a month or six weeks openly. We still await the official announcement of the Vince Aso signing which we too are also almost certain has taken place,

IWL to take Allardices spot at the Chiefs if he’s not locked into a deal with the Canes already!

Ta$man HP squad to play Hawke's Bay XV tomorrow in Wellington:
Ta$man doesn't seem to post its squad directly on social media anymore; I had to download an app to see the article in the Nelson Weekly and then make a screenshot. Link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-marlborough-app/id1347811969?mt=8&_branch_match_id=616492149323608413

@Stargazer A few interesting picks in there.
Good to see Quinton Strange is playing rugby. Jamie Spowart, as well. I wasn't massively impressed by Jamie last year, but he's still very young and perhaps the best Ta$man bet to pick up a Super contract next year.
Declan Smith is the Welsh halfback I mentioned a few days ago.
I'm pretty sure that Sam Briggs is the son of former Nelson Bays captain and prop, Gavin. But, Sam plays in the backs - first five and/or midfield I think.
-
@Chris-B I think I can remember Jamie Spowart playing for Kings Colllege up here in Auckland a few seasons back..
He is actually very swift, can remember a try he scored against Manawatu in the Mitre 10 Cup last year, off a lineout he actually burnt the turbos defence like they were standing still. -

@Nepia why would he jump ship to a team shitter than the one he's in now?
To get regular starts? To play alongside the best lock in the world?
