@chris-b I hear you. When Aumua goes off for Wellington Coles will come on. Eek!
Moody is a pretty handy replacement for the head-butting Daniel Lienert Brown! Canterbury really paying the price.
On the plus side, we should get Tim Perry, which will sort of nullify the Moody advantage. But, Canterbury are also going to get Luke Whitelock - so Ta$man should get Liam Squire!!!
Fucking Cantab-loving Hansen!
-
Frankly, it's bullshit that players can join a team for the playoffs. They should have to play a certain number of games in the regular season.
Again, NZRU shits on a domestic competition. A

@tim he is of the Going line
IIRC he has been part of a Brumbie Dev/WTG/Main squad for quite a few years, when he played for Northland (suffered a season ending injury fairly early on I think) about 4 or so years back he came and was part of one of the Brumbie squads then.
I suspect they will probably be looking a wee bit closer at him now though.

No he was fit the whole season but ranked behind Wright and Moulds - where I would still rank him personally. IIRC he had a 2 year contract but got out of the 2nd year because he didn't want to be a bench warmer again.

LOL, OK. Not behind Olsen too?
If Wright had any work-rate on defence he'd be a decent player. If Moulds had that mongrel, and could throw, then he would be too. Both are pretty 3rd rate. I don't expect them to be in much demand from other franchises.

Not currently but if Olsen had the same amount of game time in a top of the table team I'm sure he would look good too. Considering Olsen works full time outside of M10 Cup season I would say he could potentially be better if put in a full time professional environment like Abel has been in for the last 5 years.
I think Ross Wright is the best hooker out of all of them but unfortunately spends most of his time playing loosehead prop.

NZ Rugby and Waikato Rugby statement on Sevu Reece
Monday, 15 October, 2018 New Zealand Rugby and Waikato Rugby have concluded a misconduct hearing with Waikato player Sevu Reece following his discharge without conviction for a domestic assault earlier this year. New Zealand Rugby Head of Professional Rugby Chris Lendrum said while the misconduct process was a confidential employment process, in the interests of transparency, Reece and NZR had agreed to some details being released. "Sevu has accepted responsibility for the situation, is remorseful and is undertaking a suite of counselling and help programmes. He was suspended for one match, a sanction he served when he was not part of Waikato’s Ranfurly Shield match against Otago on Saturday. "We continue to encourage Sevu as he seeks to make improvements in his life. Sevu has also asked to be taken out of consideration for the Duane Monkley Medal, awarded to the best Mitre 10 Cup player of the year," Lendrum said. Any future employment with rugby in New Zealand would be dependent on him completing the help programmes, Lendrum said. As part of the misconduct process, all parties have agreed that no further comment on this matter will be made.

yea, we missed a lot. Delaney would have helped, but not to the extent that pushes us up the ladder. We were fucking ordinary.
-
@mariner4life dunno, what I'd of given for a 10 of his quality last season, I reckon he'd of made all the difference to our erratic team...this year we are a different kind of erratic.

Actually, where is hometown fullstop? Is he too big for NPC?
-
only $4.40 in a multi if you take all 4 favorites in M10 Cup
$55.10 if all visiting teams win...about $5.60 if you swap out either Ta$man/Auckland for Canterbury/Wellington

Jona Nareki, Vilimoni Koroi and Josh Ioane have all re-signed with Otago for 2019 and 2020.

Northland v Canterbury
Taranaki v Auckland- The second round of picks are selected by Championship teams in reverse order of seeding. These games will be played as home games for the Championship teams;

Canterbury v SouthlandNew Zealand Rugby will now begin work on the draw for 2019.

Why would the Magpies pick Ta$man? They're our bogey team - I'd be more confident against Canterbury.
Edit: Reading comprehension fail - Ta$man picked us. Wise decision foe easy points.

@chris-b said in Mitre 10 Cup - news, injuries etc:
@bovidae That disgusts me.
However, the Shield no longer symbolizes anything very significant to me.
What this means is that Waikato selected Otago first - a no brainer - and Otago then selected Canterbury ahead of any other Premiership team as a mandatory RS game. Understandable as they are long-standing rivals.
-
@chris-b said in Mitre 10 Cup - news, injuries etc:
@bovidae Waikato getting rewarded for being shit last year and getting relegated.
The Shield is dead to me!
Why? The fact that the first round of cross-over picks has resulted in Otago v Waikato, doesn't mean that that will be the first RS game of the season.
If the first RS game of the season is Otago v Taranaki, and Taranaki manages to grab the shield, and the next game is Taranaki v Ta$man, you'll still have a challege. Anything can happen. It's not like Otago is unbeatable at home.
-
@stargazer Until Ta$man gets a challenge, the Shield is dead to me.
Waikato being lined up for a seventh challenge in seven seasons. Symbolises nothing except a flawed system.

It's the frustrating beauty of the system (until Canterbury seems to get in a pattern of easy challenges).
At CM we get very lean spells where the Shield seems to deliberately avoid us, even more frustrating in those decades before we finally managed a win (under that appallingly poor choice as well ).You have to cross your fingers and hope you get a challenge at the same time as your team is going well.
I'll wait until the full draw before looking at the permutations and see if we've been left out in the cold again.
-
@crucial I'm afraid the magic has departed for me. Six years and counting, while those Waikato fuckers line up to get yet another challenge - despite that only Bovidae, two other blokes and a dog actually turned up to watch their defences this year.
At what point do those sleepy fuckers at NZ Rugby wake up and go, "Actually, we can't seem organize a fair and proper competition to save ourselves"?
-
Just because Waikato have chosen Otago it doesn't mean that will be the first game of the season. Until we see the schedule we don't know when during the season these games will be.
BTW talked to Richard Kinley (GM of Otago Rugby) yesterday about the Ranfurly Shield and the interview is available to my Pareons now, it will be public on the evening of the 12th

I realise this. However, it is iniquitous that Waikato should have been allowed that choice.
If they get a challenge it will be their seventh challenge in seven years. A period in which Ta$man has so far had none and is reliant once again on indirect and usually unlikely routes to getting a challenge - and if we do, you can bet your bottom dollar it will be against fucking Canterbury!
The system as it stands is stacked in favour of the worst team in the Premiership.
So basically, fuck the Shield and fuck NZ Rugby!
-
I'm probably about to get shot down, but i feel like BOP hasn't had a crack at the Shield since we held the fucking thing.
