I'm thinking this is how the team would be selected.

2 Props

1 Hooker

3. Locks/Loose Forwards

2. Halves

2. Centres/Outside Backs

Thoughts??

Also if they are going to do this they may aswell run the Sprint contest that some of the Ferners were talking about a few days ago.
-
WTF
-

There is a bit of a financial carrot, however this could end up as a shit storm if there is a massive injury toll weeks out from Super Rugby kickoff.

-

It seems to me that they are doing what I have thought they should do for a while - improve the public involvement in preseason.

For years they have been playing preseason games amongst themselves with minimal crowds and making no money off it. It's even been hard to find any footage at all.

This way a decent number of guys get a hit-out and they can make some money off it, but most important of all, we get to see it!
-
Odd
-

Not sure why posters are baffled. The Super Rugby franchises want this. They've all agreed to enter. They would otherwise be playing a pre-season game a fortnight out from the season so why not do it in a tournament setting where they can cycle through their entire squad. And if someone is going to cover their costs and give them some prize money they'd be daft not to accept the invite.

They'd otherwise we playing in Levin or Motueka with 12-man reserve benches.
-

It just seems unlikely to me that people will watch it.
-

good idea. Super preseason is a bag of rubbish usually anyway.
-

I think people will watch it. I just think some of those people may be less likely to watch the other tournaments in February as well. Just too many tournaments in one month.

As for injuries, playing an 80-minute preseason game on a soft, muddy field on a farm may be just as risky as playing a few 10s games on a real rugby field.

Looking forward to it! Step aside Auckland 9s ... (because union is so much better to watch than league).
-

Real rugby field. Brisbane in February?
-

Dunno, is Suncorp that bad in Feb? Or are you referring to its use for football? Obviously, I was making a comparison with shitty farm fields.
-

you'd have to think under the NZ model, the NZRU would pick up any prize money and maybe just give bonuses to players (who are likely to be WTG players, surely?)

I am glad its Super teams and not some other concoction. I'll be watching
