would he have been on 250k in the same season he debuted for the ABs?

edit - I guess it depends when his birthday was I suppose?
-

I was initially outraged, but it was hard to argue with most of his points. McCaw's inability to acknowledge the opposition in some post-match speeches - particularly, it seems, big matches - has always grated me a bit.

Absolutely not being smug in saying this but it is a small sample size - at least with the ABs. Never got this impression, but am impressed NTA was able to watch most of those 11 post matches, including the English loss which wasn't even available on TV in Australia.

To Richie's credit he never made excuses in the post match either - Brisbane 2011 and Cardiff being obvious examples where there was an obvious explanation but (as an AB fan) he frustratingly just said "we weren't good enough".

He was pretty lavish in his praise of the Boks during 08-09 which are the only games he lost as captain that weren't pretty easily won with a better AB performance. -

One of my mates can't stand McCaw

His reason.... he was invited to Richies 21st, a lot of the attendees were poor students. Richie is on $250k from the NZRFU.

The cheap fluffybunny didnt even have any money on the bar, it was pay for your own drinks!

Yeah or he didn't want to big note himself. I don't care who you are at 21 if you are putting on free piss for a sizable party you are a legend and probably a bit of a knob. -

Ha, you can't with with 21sts.

3 of us had ours at a student bar, and we put some cash behind and negotiated $1 wines and $2 jugs of beer.

And yet, still had a few complainers that it wasn't free. Tough Crowd!!
-

I grew up in Aus but if it wasn't through the parents it wasn't there at all (even then). -

Say no more! It all makes perfect sense now
-
While it's easy to suggest McCaw was too driven to consider the other team much while reflecting on his own team's accomplishments. A fair bit of it must come down to having an intellect that avoids cliches and responds to the journalist's questions.

I mean "all credit to them, they played well" is a stupid statement. Anyone who knows anything about the game could see that the opposition either did or didn't and the scoreline will tell you which team took their chances. Invariably the winner on the scoreboard is the better team.

Nah, removed myself three years ago. Felt like we had too many, and I'd become very boring as a poster since becoming a mod. Don't tell me you'd started a thread in the mods' forum (if one happened to exist  ) 2 years ago and you're still waiting for me to reply?
-
