That player wears another colour shirt to signify that they have goalkeeping privileges. Just that we needed her up the field to help us get that elusive equaliser. So no gear on helps

Cheers! -
I watched quite a bit of that women's golf and Lydia was on fire while some of the others were rapidly falling down the leaderboard.

Can't recall which girl it was but she double bogeyed and then took a 9. And she was near the top going into today's round.

Huge day tomorrow. -

I absolutely can't stand the Brazilians now. Just a terrible bunch of supporters. Hope the Swedes beat them in the soccer.

Why is there no extra time in hockey??
-

Fucking Germans! (not really, the men and women just played a whole lot better when it counted.)

Don't forget Mark Todd's horse! :)

Haven't seen the game, but sounds like it sucks.
-

You missed the earlier point about his fastest time being set in a race where he was dragged around by someone else front running - in that instance, an actual pacemaker who was paid to do the job. He can't run that time himself from the front. Read hydro's #1460 post and watch the video.

No I didn't - and I watched the video. :)

But I will leave my negativity there and say that I was very pleased with what Nick Willis did in his semi-final - getting near the front and requiring that if people were going to beat him most of them would at least have to run past him.
-

GB hockey showing NZ all about taking your chances. Outplayed in possession and territory, but nailed all of their chances. Then their goalkeeper totally outfoxed the Dutch in the penalty shoot-out, who missed 4 from 4.

Fair play to the Brits there.
-

Had the two fastest men in the BMX final, and both missed the start and finished out of the medals. Choke city.

The inquisition has already begun in the media -
The Aussie media and commentators really aren't shy of putting the boot in when their expectations aren't realised.

Perhaps the aussie way but it's a pressure job being an olympian in green and gold, moreso if you've been touted to medal.

Basil Zempalis swimming commentator expressing the swimmers haven't performed to expectations. How many olmpics you been to you gangly twat?

Another before the Campbell sisters, who have been all class, 50m, if Cate swims close to her pb she'll win comfortably.she got 4th. Not such a poor statement written down byt atv he time it seemed rather presumptuous -
This is a choke. Up to now boomers looked good and beat Serbia by about 15 points in pool play. Turning into a rout.

He's right though. They didn't. We know what they are capable of and they underperformed.

Not sure how Basil's lack of Olympics experience is relevant. You could say that about all columnists. You could say that about this place.
-

This isn't right. I'm used to us being plucky under dogs, heroic failure and all that. Being 2nd in the table is surreal, I'm not sure what to make of it to be honest. -
Reckon psychology at a 'Olympic team' level plays a big part.

Get a bad first week by the swimmers, and the pressure piles on the others.

Conversely GB can't stop winning, the success overflows from their awesome athletes to the average ines who over perform. -

I'm pretty sure that will get you barred from the local public baths. -

I can understand why the Aussie media might be going a bit mental though. Swimming is the Aussie Olympic thing, where they go head to head with America for supremacy. But in 2016 the Aussies have been blown out of the water. Big wake up call.

And we give a lot of money each year to high performance.

I don't think people care that much about the medal tally, by and large. What is concerning is when athletes perform well below their best, and that's what has happened in swimming, hockey and cycling.

Our athletics tilt has actually been quite good, despite only winning a few walking medals we've had heaps of PBs, unexpected finalists etc.
-

So 12 started the pole vault. Only 7 have got past 4.60m so far, including our own McCartney.

9 now.
