I am surprised that no one has mentioned possession (with the exception of Scott Curry who identified this clearly in the post match interview). We lost to Japan as we didn't have much of the ball. In 7s the critical point regarding this, is kicks offs & kick off receipts. We didn't come close to winning the World Series because of this and the issue has still not been rectified. In theory, a kick off should be a 50/50 if both teams are going hard out and you do not continually knock on (as we did yesterday). We didn't come remotely close to this v Japan.

I certainly hope Titch has addressed this, but improved execution is required. Any team (yes even Japan) will beat us just by retaining possession. Continuous tackling knocks the bejeezus out of you. You saw that when we actually got the ball - a lack of real energy and subsequently no momentum.

A few years ago you could rely on the other teams poor handling skills or breakdown retention - to get the ball back. You can no longer do this, all other sides have lifted their skillsets in this regard. Kick offs are the key to the rest of the Olympic 7s for us.
-

I think if USA lose by less than 5 or win against Fiji (or draw) then yes

Ok cheers, I'm just looking at the tables on wiki. That makes sense.

Fiji MUST win by a try or more.

The coverage on the official channel and website is just abysmal.
-

Far out man, that was a pathetic effort by our lads.Houston Dallas and New York-we have a problem! Embarrassing to say the least.Goodbye Gordon thanks for the memories.

The idea that Ware, Molia, Ormond etc wouldn't be immediately supplanted by a Super rugby player after a month or so of training is a joke really.

In saying that, the Ioane boys weren't too flash either. They put Akira on the wing and he was chopped every time.
-

Fiji didn't look that interested against the US to me.Wonder why that was?

We don't really deserve to be involved in these quarters-talk about prolonging the inevitable-but I'll still be cheering for them as always.
-

Well I thought Rattue would write an article about Tietjens, but I see he's decided it's all over for SBW (didn't bother reading the article). Of course, at various times he thought it was all over for McCaw and Carter.

NZ team looks pedestrian. Almost like no-one gives a f*ck.

A whole re-think needed, but I can't see how Tietjens can continue - NZ look bereft of ideas.
-

What a disaster with the 7s, how many of us naturally assumed we would be in for a medal when it was announced 7s was in the olympics ? I know I did ,

The Fiji game really could be an embarrassment
