Marchand wins the 200m Breaststroke with another OR
Unbelievable to win 2 golds in the same session

Unbelievable that it was butterfly and breaststroke. That is unprecedented.

Coverage of that Triathlon was shit.
Why were we getting saturation coverage of the Frogs with no coverage of the leader showing split to second changing.
I agree. The Aussie comms spent 10 minutes crowning Wilde, then all of a sudden Yee was leading and they had no idea it was happening.
But to be fair to them I reckon they were taking the IOC feed, which gave them no splits, no margin, no overhead tracking shot in the key period of the race. So they could only judge it off the pictures which were pretty misleading at times.

and i think that gap closed really really quickly.

There was a very brief scary moment where I wondered if the Frenchman might also catch up to him too.

Which brings me to one of my ideas to bring a bit of life to the Olympics: instead of being the same five events, the Modern Pentathlon should consist of five Olympic events randomly drawn at the opening ceremony.
In Paris it could be tennis, judo, equestrian, BMX and diving. In LA it might be artistic swimming, archery, taekwondo, weight lifting and surfing.
Reward the ultimate all-rounder. Don't tell me you wouldn't watch some 100kg romanian martial arts guru try and ride a barrel in Tahiti...

I do find triathlon a bit funny sometimes, where after the swim and the bike they are all generally in a big pack.
Why not just save everyone's time and have a 10km running race?
I often think triathlons must suck for the ones who are strongest in the swim. Yay! First out of the water again! Oh....

on the flip side, why should i be impressed with the 10,000m when they haven't done 1.5km in a river and rode 40km first?

i like the idea i saw floating around social media the last olympics
have a random Joe in every event so you get a comparable base line. So in your triathlon the winner comes in with a time of 1.53. And then we wait an hour and a bit for average Joe to finish.

Oh you shouldn't. I know I'm not. I've always maintained Haile Gebraselassie is one of the most fraudelent athletes of all time.

(in before anyone mentions that, even at their current ages, both would absolutely destroy me in a triathlon)

If average Joe can even finish. Most wouldnt make it back up the river!

my mate (who did big triathlons) reckons chasing is easier than defending on the run. So there's that, too.
Due the psychological stimulus of having a clear target in front of the attacking runner?
