NZ can be one behind GB but not two in this sale race. NZ 3rd, GBR 2nd. NZ need POL in 4th to piss off. GBR need to get in front of leaders Germany.

Wondered why we were just following GBR around the course. But yes basically now were counting on GER beating GBR...

Yup, tactics were wrong, did their own thing and that wasn't enough

Not really - we weren't in the race to finish ahead of GBR or GER...GBR beat GER on the line by 1 - 2 seconds...

Next medal events are Diving final and another sail race. Then track cycling.

Basically we just tried to follow GBR around the course, but GER sailed a braver race and went with splits to try and make something happen and ended up ahead of us...

Unlikely for medals in any of those

Track is in medal round so bronze is possible at least

Reasonable strategy but sounds like ultimately we needed to be a little bolder

I only saw the second half of the race. But we were never on the same side of the course as GBR. I'm not a sailor but that seems weird. Needed to treat it as a bit of match race. no?

The next race, Josh Junior is in 4th place I think.

Apparently NZ is like a minnow in Kayak racing going by numbers. A powerhouse in results in these events.

It certainly not rowing-like. As in clubs and schools, seeing crews actually practicing as part of normal life if you live or work near a harbour.

I guess some of the talent must be identified in surf lifesaving? As in that is a sport that actually has decent amount of youth going through it. Clubs in every coastal town and city.

Then pluck some young talent to hyper-specialisr for an olympic event?

Unless you live near Lake Pupuke maybe? Maybe its a different world around there?

I believe part of the reason we got so good is when Ian Ferguson got involved in bringing through the next generation, first through his son and Fouhy and then when Carrington came through. She was only doing it to help her surf kayaking.
