Nyika in his semi=final today. Tough opponent with unpronounceable name.
This should be good, real good.
The russian has beaten Nyika before but it was close. Pretty sure Nyika thinks he has the goods to beat him now. Here's hoping!

He’d be a light heavyweight in the pro ranks if I’m not mistaken ?
Also ( for a fight fan I know fuck all about the admin side of what happens in boxing ) how is he competing in the olympics when he has fought as a pro ?

Just one of those random rules of the Olympics.....the golfers and tennis players are pros, some of the football players are pro's, basketballers for some countries....pros.

Full time:
The Netherlands 3 - 0 New ZealandThe Dutch progress to the semis, the Kiwis are out.
Can't really complain. The Dutch were just so much better.NZ paid the price for those loses to Spain and China after a great start. Finishing 4th in their pool meant playing one of the big guns in the QF.

@bovidae yikes, if she wins that will be even more impressive!
potentially 4 races in 3 hours 15 mins!!
She was saying the other day how her team have everything planned to the minute and she is confident. They have trained to perform at these intervals as they knew the schedule well in advance.

Oh I am sure they have, still a tough day none the less!

On that 5,000m, not to take anything away from Hassan (all 49kgs of her!!!) as she was great - but boy did the others hand her every opportunity. They were never going to be able to stay with her in the sprint, they needed to try the Norwegian triathlete tactic of blowing her up earlier.
Guess none of them thought they could do it and were fighting for the minor medals.
-
got a mate that is part of her team - was saying she's got her chin ups to 30 @ 100kgs.. so her body weight with 35kgs strapped on

god it's like horse racing then. too scared to lose so they just let the favourite do what they want. cowardice.
Elite level running is so insane. We can all run (to varying degrees) some of us can run quite well. And then there are these guys and girls. That 5,000m was very cool.
I ran a 23 minute 5km last week and felt like i was flying. I would have lost that race last night by 2km.
Last night i ran at a 3 min/km pace for a bit. it's really really fucking fast. i couldn't sustain it for 500m let alone 5,000 and I'm in pretty good shape.
1,500m heats today. my favourite event of the games.

Yeah not sure I believe that. 30 unaided, ahem, for a girl is fucken elite. I doubt she could smash out that many with all that extra weight.

Hubbard fails to complete a single lift in the snatch.
Huh? I just watched her lift 125? Wasn't that the snatch?
Edit- Did it not count, I see she's not on the leaderboard
Yeah too much arm wobble. Should have challenged it.
Bloody hell. What a lot of angst for nothing in the end, you have to laugh 😂
The issue is Hubbard took a female's position at the games.
Ironically the biological male is probably the most female looking of the lot.
Great Silver for Emily Campbell GB
Tremendous Olympic Record for Li Wen Wen of China
That’s a whole lot of women.

Yeah I’m going to have to call bs on that one. I’m sure she has some impressive stats but that’s taking the piss.
