Liam Squire chased by french club Toulouse.
This would be a big loss if he decides to go. Depth at six and eight at test level is not great, can't afford to lose Squire.
I read some of the french sites, it was extremely vague, did not at all strike me as remotely a done deal.
I think squire would be crazy to go now, he could easily cement a spot in the 23.

Matt Todd has signed with the Crusaders....so aint going anywhere , always good to keep some!

One of the loyal players who kept fighting for an All Blacks jersey and it paid off last year. Pity he has re-signed for just one year. I guess that may have to do with whether he's named in the AB squad for the Lions tour, although it's hard to imagine he will not be selected.
-
@Stargazer for the Crusaders game? I reckon he's a fair shout. But for the tests? He's in a 3-way fight for a spot, i can't see them picking 3 opensides, so unless injury strikes, i can very easily see him watching the whole thing on TV
-
@mariner4life Ardie isn't more than a bench 7 at this stage, and if it's true they're prepping him for the reserve no. 8 spot as well, then I can easily see Todd in the squad. I guess it depends a bit on the size of the squad.
-
I wonder if his thinking about only signing next year is that he will know then what his chances of the 2019 RWC will be, so either sign on again, or bail and take the cash with the inevitable pre- RWC exodus

Yeah, a three way fight where he isn't going to beat out Cane for the starting spot, and he isn't going to beat out Ardie for the bench (impact) spot.
Hell of a player and will do a job if selected, but I can see why he wouldn't sign long-term right now.

@No-Quarter I dunno if Cane has as firmer grasp on the jersey, I'm a big fan, but I think Matt Todd made much more of his chances than either Cane or Savea last year, especially as a starter.

That and the fact he's just an injury away from definite selection.
-
@MajorRage That hit on Heaslip would now earn him a yellow. Even with SH refs.
I doubt whether the way Cane is liked or disliked up north will be an important factor in his selection, if it is a factor at all. The selectors seem to like him and that will be the reason why they pick him. My guess is that if the two first tests are won, either Savea or Todd will get a start in the 3rd test.

Cane's tackle was on Robbie Henshaw.
It's a cardinal rule that NZ players don't profess to know the names of the opposition they're playing/non-tiddlywinks tackling.
Indeed, a number of NZ players [edit: and fans] thought they were playing Iceland in Chicago. Last November...

Talks Oirish, name starts with an 'H'. Same diff.
Nothing quite says "I'm an authority on NH rugby" like getting the guys name wrong.
