What should I buy?

For the audiophiles on a budget, I'm after a turntable and want to spend less than $1K on it.
What are your suggestions?

What amp do you have? You might need a phono preamp if it isn't built-in to your existing amp. More cost.
I don't have a turntable in my system but for that price you are probably looking at a model from Pro-Ject or Audio Technica. Maybe you could find a second-hand Thorens or Technics. The cost is often in the quality of the cartridge and stylus.

I have a Rega Planar 2 which is excellent. First brought to market in the early 70s and still being made. Low tech so super robust but with really good mechanics. The sound quality is very good Caveat: depending on your amp and speakers of course.
Cost in the UK is about £350 (bought one for Ms Cato’s birthday just over a year ago). There is a Planar 3 available but that is a bit more techy and close to twice the price.
Stylish to look at too. V understated.
