The guy who got shafted was Narawa
Barely saw the field for the ABs this year then discarded
Was he injured out of ABXV?
He got dropped between the July series and The Rugby Championship
Of course Reece didn't....
From the ABs, but what was story with ABXV? Not selected or injured? (Can't remember.)
If the former that is a mistake.
Yeah injured I believe

Increasingly noticeable for me how 10 and 15 aren't prepared in Super rugby in certain areas for the international level, such as kicking.

Wallace Sititi and Tupou Vaii have been the players of the season. Tamati Williams and Asafa Aumua have taken strides forward. Caleb Clarke and Tyrell Lomax have gone okay.
But apart from that it doesn't feel like we are going anywhere. A rather disappointing season.
DMac has gone ok with more experience. Not just Vaa'i but also Patty T and Darry-we are now ok with locks. Lakai (does anyone want to go back to Cane, EB or Jacobson?). Tosi for bench-shaking impact, In the backs Cam R, Proctor and Love. In the future possibly Hotham as backup if Ratima doesn't work out.
Add Lord and Holland (I'm on the Dutchie's bandwagon).
it is a big Dutch bandwagon. Holland looks an exciting prospect.

@Billy-Tell Well, I think we are. We met an off colour Irish side and didn't have to do much to beat them, England we simply got lucky. Robertson has been let off the hook the first couple of tests. I see some massive problems with this squad and the coaching/calls. I hope I'm wrong, but it's not looking good.
Bollocks. We'd have been unlucky to lose.
I see definite development and I'm not seeing mid-Foster era ineffectiveness.
Player stocks and development I agree.
Mental side of things and consistency is still poor.
-
We're amazing at attacking everywhere from the field, until we get to 10 metres out from the tryline.
Seem to be able to get to the opposition tryline with EASE which has been the massive improvement for us since the Foster era.But once we get there we seem to NEVER be able to convert possession there into a Try.
We should have been up by 20 in the first half (I still believe with Dmac we would have been so am still fuming about that selection decision..).
Robertson needs to work on that during the off season to get this team humming.
-
12: Jordie, Lam, or Proctor I'd have before DH. Jordie is more of a weapon at 15 and can be (emergency level) back up at 10-I don't see DH's utility value.

I think it's time for the Barrett brothers gimmick to be put to bed. Scott isn't the answer at captain, Beauden is out of date by a couple of seasons and Jordie barely gets a pass mark.
The 3 points with 5 to go is a pathetic call.
Also, anybody know what Havilli has added to this tour? Instagram shows me he's doing nothing but playing golf? Probably best, if he were playing he'd be throwing intercept passes.
They each stand on their own merits.
Scott looks like a good captain to me. Measured and one of our best players every game.
BB reverts to type and chooses the kick option too much. These were all poor:
- half time drop goal
- cross kick to Reece
- grubber in their 22
Jordie is Jordie.

Need to find a winger with top end pace to complement Clarke. Reece has played his last test match and not sure if we can persist with Talea who isn't fast either. Naholo might be the answer if he can stay injury free.
Reece was fine for me. Yes he got run over by a faster wing but he had other attributes. Made good yardage at rucks. I like Emoni Narawa for all his skills.
-
The gap between Cam and Ratima, and Mark and Sevu is considerable. I think Ratima will improve and be a decent sub, Reece's place must be at risk. So much to like about the performance, frustrating that we let things go in the second half. Razor definitely needs to up his half time chat game. Lakai looks like he belongs, Jordan belongs.... on the wing....

Or Jordan at 14 with Love at 15. There are several options but not Reece.

Problem I have with Razor is many of his selections and tactics seemed like he was just trying not to lose, meanwhile we lost a lot of games we could have won anyway so that experience did not help us. Let’s be real he should have been working on replacements for Reiko , ALB, Reece, Beaudie for months.
-
@kpkanz i would be interested in how many penalties opposing teams have conceded against ABs this year when in the red zone.
If ABs were coughing up some of the penalties in the 22m that France did tonight, you know there would be very loud calls for a YC and lots talk about AB cheating.
ABs discipline has greatly improved on EOYT.
I think the ABs needed to go for the lineout at the end of the game. Easier said when viewing from afar. The ref was giving penalties at the breakdown, so I think the risk/return was good. ABs just needed to focus on ball retention, which was good for the most part in this match. If France transgressed, there is a free shot and more pressure.
All being said and done, a few on here said NZ would get pumped on the EOYT by England, Ireland and France. They beat the first 2 and lost by one point to the last one. That is progress. ABs may not be where some want them to be, but addressing some of the crap that masqueraded as AB rugby from 2018 to now takes time to do.
ABs forward pack is beginning to fire. Set pieces are very good and the breakdown work and carrying is improving. Focus for 2025 is the back line. Continual improvement is name of the game now.

I agree that he's shown too much favour to some guys who either aren't up to it or won't make the next Cup. Maybe he wanted a transition year. Well he's had that now, time to move a bunch of guys out and run the rule over their potential replacements
-
I'm thinking not selecting DMac as first five was a mistake

@stodders said in All Blacks v France:
@DMX I think he’s learned a lot about what test match coaching is about. He’s shown he is learning. Not consistently, like his team. But on an upward curve IMO.
The way we played tonight vs the way we played early in the year. Chalk and cheese

….and if there’s an emergency after that emergency Havili can step in at 10 as well.

Well apparently you can't lose your position to injury (so BS imo) so I guess we get to see Ethan Blackadder back in 2029 for two tests.
