All Blacks v France

What a stupid avoidable loss holy shit.
We were up 14-3

We win that game with Dmac starting, would have been up by 30 first half when we had the momentum. Fukn dumb selections cost us the game.
And then we take off Roigard 50th min for some dumb reason.
The way that first half played out I agree, the way DMac plays we would have made a lot more of our possession

Fůck it. That should have been ours. But at least we're trending very well. Just get a test match 10 and a FB who isn't Will Jordan.
We've been "trending" for 2 years....the only top team we seem to be able to beat are Ireland.
Give it a rest Foster lover.
-
@nostrildamus Proctor needs work defensively? What?
DMac and Roigard should be our halves pairing. That game made it clear.
Jordan made some poor decisions too. Seemed pretty gassed.
-
That was very un all black like. We took 4 penalties in a row and turned down multiple chances to go ahead… that’s playing scared. Incredibly conservative decisions from Scott Barrett, scared decisions. You put yourself in a position to win backing your team to go ahead by scoring a try there.
4 penalties in a row while trailing… unheard of.
Our own worst enemy, multiple missed opportunities. Tough slog but credit to the French for getting the job done.
-
It was a case of not taking our opportunities in the 2nd half and our poor discipline handing them easy penalties and points. Feel the same level of disappointment as I did after Joburg, we should have beaten France.

Upside: Roigard, Lakai, Aumua
Downsides: Reece, Scott Barrett, Jordan.
I have a sneaking suspicion you are more of a Canes fan than a Crusader one.
I have a sneaking suspicion we have lost four games this year because of Robertson picking too many of his Red n'Black chums.

Proctor was poor defensively vs Japan
-
French were good, but we left tries out there that would have taken it away. Roigard, Ardie very good. Conversely Reece very poor, Sititi a little off his magical best, Beaudy lacked variation but was ok. On balance, pretty disappointed not to win that.

France were pretty good
They have an inordinate amount of athletic lumps knocking around.

Never said you were wrong!

France better but nz not enough patience. And too many 3 pointers should have tried to take lead.
-
Disappointing to lose that after so much territory and possession.
One thing we need to improve on hugely is once we score points, we invariably let the other side score next so we don’t build scoreboard pressure.
We are still a work in progress and are really looking for the 1-2% improvement to win these types of games.
We are building, we are not perfect, we are good at times, but we need to get better and be more ruthless.
-
@DaGrubster it's noticeable how much better other teams are at kicking off than us. High, deep kicks that have our catchers under huge pressure, we don't seem to pay the same attention to that facet.
-
@DaGrubster The French team had many fewer caps than our. We were beaten by the less experienced team. I am not sure the "we're building argument" works when other sides are building more and beating us. Disappointing.
-
@foobaNZ DMac seems to have really improved on this tour.

It's noticeable in Super Rugby. Very few teams bother to put pressure on when kicking off. A lot of cheap exits. We aren't trained well to deal with it
-
So, sliding doors (climate related @nostrildamus ). Like the England Test if we were lucky to win that, we were unlucky to lose this.
(Although in both games we were playing the better rugby, until we did dumb shit.)
-
Learnings:
- Don't sub Roigard at 51 minutes if there's no need, Robertston you cock
- Don't take the three (which wasn't even a super easy kick) when you're down by 4 with 5 mins to go while dominating the set piece, Scott you dick
- Don't have Scott Barrett be captain, Robertson you wang
- Don't have Beauden Barrett take any kicks for touch, Robertson you penis. He just can't do it properly. They are so shit.
- Don't let these random neck roll calls come from a TMO, World Rugby you shafts. They are annoying as fuck and so inconsistent it isn't funny. There was a clear neck roll on A Savea shortly before the French first try
- Don't tackle with your head first into a player's knee, Samipeni you prong
- Don't let Will Jordan near a rugby ball if he's on your team, unless he scores immediately thereafter, Robertson you rod
-
I hope the coaching team won't let Barrett off easily on that call to take the 3. Field position is paramount when there's only 5 minutes to go, and getting back into their half is not guaranteed especially with how poor our exits have been from kickoffs. I'm stunned that he decided to do that.
-
Big issue was taking the three at 30-26... was asking a lot to get back down the other end, a confident All Black side puts that in the corner and goes for the kill.
-
Don’t think Reece should make the ABs again. Just not good enough at the highest level.

yes but that is a sign of bad judgement or coaching.
The kicking, exits etc haven't consistently improved. That seems a structural, coaching or talent issue.

Yes, we always seem to be under immediate pressure after we score and the other team kicks to us.
It is a major problem for this side as they are always letting teams off the hook

Need some young wingers to put their hand up next year
I suppose Leicester coming back too

Chay Fihaki is ready to step up.
-
No YCs although they had a good look at trying to manufacture one out of nothing. So that's a good thing
BB just looks fucking clueless with good ball - Dmac looks dangerous and creative - I really do not understand the fascination with BB unless stunting our attack and giving quality possession away is a "game plan"
Tight forwards played very well. Loosies were ok, Lakai was certainly the pick of them.
Roigard looked very good in first half but appeared slower after the break.... Ratima has potential but seems to want to play like TJP for some unknown reason.
Scooter was in Refs ear nicely in first half but felt he needed to keep it up - specifically, scrums, and ruck ball being slowed down.
Felt the ref was not bad in first 40mins but was very inconsistent in 2nd half. Lets not even mention the TMO nonsense that came in.
Certainly a game that could / should have been won - and some learnings.
We need to develop depth at 10 and 15 in particular, the obsession with taking injured players on tour needs to change, and why take so many wingers and play Reece?

Unfortunately it seems Fihaki is next in line ... want a big Super season from him to prove that if he actually is.
Git some openings in the back three to my mind.
-
Pretty much any of our sevens players have more pace than Rees.
-
We are miles off being a good team, personnel wise and strategy wise. We were bloody slow to the ruck in the second half. Our wingers are bollock slow. The only places we look dangerous are in in the starting front and back rows, the rest of it we are struggling. Feels like a bleak WC cycle to me. We had so much talent and where is it now.
-
The guy who got shafted was Narawa
Barely saw the field for the ABs this year then discarded

We really aren’t miles off. We could easily have won that game.

Yeah, fair call. I haven’t seen the cap numbers.
I suppose BB skews those numbers a little bit though!?
Ultimately, that was a game we should have won and it feels like we have said that 4 times now this year.
The biggest difference between SA and us right now is their inner belief and supreme confidence they will win. Of course that is built up over many years and we need to get there somehow. Lots of our ‘experienced’ players have the experience of near misses over the last 4-5 years…

So summarising:
- Keep the Canes player on
- Bad Crusaders pick
- Bad Crusaders pick
- Bad brother of Crusaders pick
- Protect the Canes players
- Chiefs forwards are still dumb
- Bad Crusaders pick
-
Wallace Sititi and Tupou Vaii have been the players of the season. Tamati Williams and Asafa Aumua have taken strides forward. Caleb Clarke and Tyrell Lomax have gone okay.
But apart from that it doesn't feel like we are going anywhere. A rather disappointing season.

That and they take smart options consistently.
-
@Billy-Tell Well, I think we are. We met an off colour Irish side and didn't have to do much to beat them, England we simply got lucky. Robertson has been let off the hook the first couple of tests. I see some massive problems with this squad and the coaching/calls. I hope I'm wrong, but it's not looking good.

I have pretty much the completely opposite view. NZ lost to one of the top four teams in the world at their fortress (and it is a fortress, the loudest and most partisan atmosphere you'll get at any ground around the world).
NZ have a great front row with Samisoni Taukei'aho still to return, some very good young loose forwards, two very promising halfbacks in Roigard and Ratima.
There are a few issues across the line-up but Razor will probably push the boat out a little more next year. There's a few pieces of deadweight that probably need to be moved on but already Cane and Perenara will be gone next year, Reece has probably played his last game in black, and there are a few more players who will be under a lot of pressure. It bodes well for the future, even if they didn't always get the biscuits this year.
-
For the whole 'why take 3' argument
The only try we constructed was Lakai's in the first 10 minutes (Roigard's was a piece of individual brilliance)
