Pretty pathetic at the main grounds. I saw Canterbury played in Rangiora and that had a marginally better crowd.
Is the last year Sky are hosting it???
It would be better played at the regional grounds rather than these big stadiums as it’s a pretty shit product now.

It's become a glorified club comp. And actually, given how NZR seem to hate it, it may go better as a post-club national competition.
Hell, you get bigger crowds at a good club fixture than at an NPC game these days

Doesn’t help when Otago have all their tickets(other than kids) at $32. Absolutely disgusting in my opinion. They are doing a half price thing for this weekend against Canterbury but yikes, $32 for an NPC game is ridiculous. If they want better crowds, they may need to bite the bullet and do all they can to lower those prices. Can’t speak for other provinces prices, but have been told most have a lot cheaper options.

its because the season is so short, they have to make all their money in 5 games....it just doesnt add up

Yeah I get that. My argument to that is lower the tickets price by $15-20 and you’d most likely make up the loss in price changes in more tickets being sold alone. More butts on seats = more merch purchased, souvenirs, food and drinks purchased at the stadium etc etc. Baffles me.

Didn’t mean to sound like it was an argument towards your comment, wasnt meant in that way. 👍🏽 it’s just a shambles and a real shame, especially for kids. Gone are the days when a family can go along for cheap and take their kid with them. You’re looking at close to a $80-$100 to watch an NPC game, ridiculous.

GA tickets at Okara for an adult are $16 (grass embankment and seated area on that side as well) think for the main grandstand they start at $26.
Quite often they have kids go free days, but that is GA only I believe.
I've always thought the best way to do it, rather than say kids go free, go out to schools and give kids a free ticket that says free when with a paying adult....kids with a physical ticket in thier hand is a better way to ensure they go, and then needing a parent too.

Those were the best times, those are the games I grew up on, the Tin was absolutely pumping.

Well I a gold member at the Naki, costs me $80 (gold card etc) but that gets me into the 5 games , free parking and even a free pint of beer (someone bought a couple when I there on weekend, they $11) at a local pub before the game.
I expecting price to go up next year with new stand open by then, and hopefully s bar etc.
Like all things we can find excuses to either go or stay home and watch it on TV, and have no problems with anyone's choice. I would very seriously doubt whether there would be bigger crowds at any club games. It can get a little tempting to stay home on some night fixtures when it's cold and raining, I got to drive for an hour to get there, as do a few from Hawera etc.
I agree in smaller stadiums could be good idea if it ok for tv etc.
The glory days of NPC 80s,90s etc had the advantage it was back in Amateur days, we didn't have pay tv etc.Mind you I not neutral on NPC, it is my favourite rugby comp, so I always talk it up anyway.

I used to see it at Ballymore on club finals day in Brisbane, or even on embankment on rep days, whole lot of young fellas pissed, and surprise surprise there were punch ups. Unfortunately cheap piss doesn't work too often. I have seen it at super rugby too, usually younger fellas preloaded and then still getting into piss there. -
Just remembered, used to pay $5 to get into a club game in early 90s, and about $15 for a provincial game (and that was in the Horowhenua), so genuinely think prices as a rule are about same with inflation etc. That was amateur days too! One or 2 clubs in the Naki still have gate charges these days, but not here in Hawera .
