Just finished watching the game. Forwards stepped up again. Cody had a whale of a game, the locks played really well, our back row got a lot of turnovers. Sititi has a good game I thought, worth persisting with for now. Ratima was a definite upgrade, in fact I don't know why Razor subbed him off. DMac had an up and down game, that missed PK near the end was a coach killer, and at times he lapsed into helter skelter stuff. I agree that Rieko looked more comfortable at wing, missed a couple of tackles when in the midfield. Reese had his brain explosion and generally failed to have the impact Clarke had last weekend, and our inability to combat the high ball was clear.

After our high intensity first half the Boks had a strong comeback in the second half, and we couldn't escape our quarter, capped off by the Kolisi try.

Our backline looked dangerous at times, but we just couldn't get over the line. Kudos to amazing Springbok defence.

As well as we played, we just lacked a little accuracy at times, and the Boks are at the top of their game. So close and yet so far but there was much promise on show. I still want to see if Plummer can provide an upgrade at 10, until he is given a go it's just guess work.

@W32 You didn't have non-Whites playing rugby in those days ...

Wasn't dissing the Boks' achievement, merely pointing out another reason why this current record is so shit by us.

And the Boks certainly had a better win/loss against us in that time. I'm sure it was purely coincidental that it was in the era before neutral referees.

Plenty of those games were played in New Zealand. And there were plenty of non whites playing rugby in South Africa in those days. They just weren’t selected for the springboks, to the springboks detriment.

ABs by 10. We weren’t fall apart in the last 15 this week.

Hmmm. McKenzie losing his kicking boots and Lomax his brain

We are close but made too many mistakes in their 22.

Taylor was great and Sititi gave the type of game Akira could only dream of.

Reece is a liability and Talea couldn’t take the high ball.

    International is harder then Super…

Not sure if that supports your point 😀

Can we distract back to the old days so we can stop talking about what happened overnight?

Plummer at 10. If that’s the solution then we’re asking the wrong question. Has never looked a ten for an international team hoping to be at the top of the pile. Don’t mind if he gets a game vs a minnow.

Back 3 and Perenara were the the weak links today. If the play the likes of Ireland will pepper us with high kicks all day.

Rieko to wing and give proctor a go. Also give love a go.

These 2 games reminded me of the anton Oliver era. Lots of narrow losses.

Unlike last week I never really felt we were going to win that one.

I want to stick up for the ref. I thought he was really good. I couldn't find major fault in any decision. I thought he got the YCs exactly correct. He was good in the breakdown about not allowing tacklers to help jacklers get onto the ball. Where the tackler cleared the area he was consistent in penalising isolated players.

With the pace of the game at this level and the complexity of the situation, I don't think that is as good a game as you will ever see.

Also I did not like TJ making sarcastic comments in commentary about last week's ref. That sort of thing is churlish and unbecoming.

its pretty wild how we’ve become the worst closing team in recent history. I actually burst out laughing when Reece fell asleep at the end. Just comical stuff

@Jet fitness of the starters isn’t the issue. Lomax and Williams were both going well past 60 mins. Taylor went 80.

The issue is that the quality coming off the bench is unable to maintain the levels of the starting XV. ABs bench used to raise the performance levels in last 20. If that were the case today, the game was there to be won.

One of the keys for Robertson is to find the right mix of bench players to inject impetus and maintain performance, or even better, raise it to get that late game surge working again.

The other is to stop the mistakes. Sometimes there is a time to play. Sometimes there is a time to work from set piece to set piece and be patient. Patience is lacking in the ABs right now and it shows in the leaders.

The good news is that the current AB team and coaches were not far from winning both tests in SA against the reigning world champs and current leading SH nation. ABs have been measured and have seen their limitations. Now the major work starts.

Aggree with you pretty well completely mate, funnily enough with @Jet as well, I had wondered when I went back to bed whether Love at 15 would be worth a look, with Jordan,Ioane and Clarke fighting wing spot? Perhap Proctor at 13, like ALB, but genuinely thinking of changing up.

He had a good year last year and a good wc ,it was like he was covered in Vaseline and no one could tackle him ,

but now it’s like all these negatives have appeared that either weren’t there or weren’t obvious last year .

I am not overly worried we lost TBH.

We are not a bad team, we're just up against a team right at the top of their game and on top of the world.

Unlike the loss against the Pumas these were 2 reasonable performances.

I don't think Telea and Reese are up to it. Clarke on one wing and probably Jordan on the other is a much better fit.

I also am not sure why our props played so long. Our starting LH gave away a stupid YC in the 68th minute. He should have been subbed by that point.

Yeah, a Foster-coached Blues would have rag-dolled the Boks today 🙄

We are going backwards is my point. We have the players to be better than this dross.

Ryan surely has to be under pressure?

Am sure the answer is more Cantabs, lol.

Considering we had an inexperience full back, a midget and someone who has forgotten how to catch in the back three I don’t think they actually got exposed too badly.

@Darth-Sader Boks would have loved playing against a Blues style team. It’d be like the Lions 2021 tour all over again. Meat and drink for the Boks.

Boks struggle when teams stretch them and tire them out. It requires patience. Something lacking in NZ rugby right now, but that is probably more to do with the lack of exposure NZ players get to this type of anaerobic playing style nowadays.

It is also worth pointing out that NZ have been poor for several years at u20 level. The new talent conveyor belt has been a bit empty. I think some of the new crop coming through show promise. Add Segner and Holland into the mix and the forward stocks look quite good.

AB coaches and NZ coaches in general are going to have to earn their corn by out coaching their opposites to exploit opposition flaws and mask NZ weaknesses. Time to innovate.

The forwards weren't really the problem.
2nd half FB , Wingers and 2nd half HB were.
