@KiwiMurph in that game Boks were only ever going to get over in eight minutes with a lot of luck.
And yet they seem to win in the last quarter a lot

Another good test I thought. No arguments about the result. The honest truth at moment the Boks are a better team, in general have better players, and coachies.
I not overly upset, they are where we were about 2015, and we perhaps got a couple of years of pain until we get our team settled in, both younger players and coaches learn that test rugby are a bit different beasts..
I thought positives were tighties were good (Vai'i really has come on etc) loosies weren't bad either Sititi had good start to career, we will miss Cane at end of year though..
Backs are struggling a bit and I buggered if I can see Jordan is batter at 15 than 14, but just ny take right or wrong.
Still wonder about our fitness with gameplan, we seem tired in last 20 minutes. -
ABs didn't score when Le Roux was in the bin
SA scored 5 pts when Lomax was in the binThat was the difference (almost )

And Reece and Telea are running in treacle.
Get Rieko back out to the wing. He is no centre.
Rieko Clarke And Jordan/Love in the back three.

@Jet fitness of the starters isn’t the issue. Lomax and Williams were both going well past 60 mins. Taylor went 80.
The issue is that the quality coming off the bench is unable to maintain the levels of the starting XV. ABs bench used to raise the performance levels in last 20. If that were the case today, the game was there to be won.
One of the keys for Robertson is to find the right mix of bench players to inject impetus and maintain performance, or even better, raise it to get that late game surge working again.
The other is to stop the mistakes. Sometimes there is a time to play. Sometimes there is a time to work from set piece to set piece and be patient. Patience is lacking in the ABs right now and it shows in the leaders.
The good news is that the current AB team and coaches were not far from winning both tests in SA against the reigning world champs and current leading SH nation. ABs have been measured and have seen their limitations. Now the major work starts.

The thing is these 4 guys are a potent back 3. We have kind of got this wrong at the moment.
-
@BerniesCorner Rieko would be a brilliant closer, able to cover wing and 13. Bring him on to wreak havoc against tired defences.
The make up of the 23 is what is important now

ABs by 10. We weren’t fall apart in the last 15 this week.
I wish

What was the point of our box kicks from Ratima, when our wingers were merely going for a slow jog after them? Clarke was definitely missed today. I hope we never see Reece and Talea in black again.
I think that was maybe the worst collective AB back 3 performance I have ever seen. All useless under the high ball, barely effective in attack, constantly doing something dumb. Just horrible.
Reminiscent of 09

Boks have the Freedom Cup for the first time since 2009
First time they have won four in a row against the All Blacks since the 1940s.
Against the racially selected, understrength team.

Thoughts as I watched the game.
The good:
Taylor, Cane, Scooter and Vaai stood up today.
Sititi certainly worth another go.
Ratima should keep starting.
Rekio is a wing – he looked way better there
With Vaai performance today – lock stocks are developing some depth very nicely. The not so good
Noticeably slower service when TJP came on. And he took all 2 fucking seconds to get under the ref’s skin… I feel he is a liability – his experience is cancelled by his mouth… which further reduces the likelihood of any 50/50s going our wayJordon not a 15 for me.
Really dumb penalty by Lomax.
Officiating was simply not up to international standard today – consistency…. never heard of it.
Some baffling decisions both ways – it’s amazing what these guys see and “see” -

Our white guys were better than your white guys.
When the boks won the series in NZ in … 37? Was that a full strength AB team? I have no idea. Would be interesting to see who was the most dominant team in world rugby up until the boks were banned
How stupid and shortsighted were those racist bastards in government

Just finished watching the game. Forwards stepped up again. Cody had a whale of a game, the locks played really well, our back row got a lot of turnovers. Sititi has a good game I thought, worth persisting with for now. Ratima was a definite upgrade, in fact I don't know why Razor subbed him off. DMac had an up and down game, that missed PK near the end was a coach killer, and at times he lapsed into helter skelter stuff. I agree that Rieko looked more comfortable at wing, missed a couple of tackles when in the midfield. Reese had his brain explosion and generally failed to have the impact Clarke had last weekend, and our inability to combat the high ball was clear.
After our high intensity first half the Boks had a strong comeback in the second half, and we couldn't escape our quarter, capped off by the Kolisi try.
Our backline looked dangerous at times, but we just couldn't get over the line. Kudos to amazing Springbok defence.
As well as we played, we just lacked a little accuracy at times, and the Boks are at the top of their game. So close and yet so far but there was much promise on show. I still want to see if Plummer can provide an upgrade at 10, until he is given a go it's just guess work.

@W32 You didn't have non-Whites playing rugby in those days ...
Wasn't dissing the Boks' achievement, merely pointing out another reason why this current record is so shit by us.
And the Boks certainly had a better win/loss against us in that time. I'm sure it was purely coincidental that it was in the era before neutral referees.

Plenty of those games were played in New Zealand. And there were plenty of non whites playing rugby in South Africa in those days. They just weren’t selected for the springboks, to the springboks detriment.

Hmmm. McKenzie losing his kicking boots and Lomax his brain
We are close but made too many mistakes in their 22.
Taylor was great and Sititi gave the type of game Akira could only dream of.
Reece is a liability and Talea couldn’t take the high ball.
International is harder then Super…
-
Plummer at 10. If that’s the solution then we’re asking the wrong question. Has never looked a ten for an international team hoping to be at the top of the pile. Don’t mind if he gets a game vs a minnow.
Back 3 and Perenara were the the weak links today. If the play the likes of Ireland will pepper us with high kicks all day.
Rieko to wing and give proctor a go. Also give love a go.
These 2 games reminded me of the anton Oliver era. Lots of narrow losses.
