Anyone here watching? Not a big fan of these boats, but some good racing today
I went to the last A Cup and loved it. Today's preliminary regatta final against Lunna Rossa was awesome to watch and I expect something similar as we eventually role around to the A Cup.
Nice to seal a regatta win. I'm not a big fan of us taking part in the Louis Vuitton regatta, I feel we should give all the other team's their dues and let them battle it out in four days time.

love it, very different to the day we're boats would separate to find different wind conditions and come back to the Mark having changed everything....which i miss, but still hugely impressive and easy to catch up on races in the morning

Who's "us"? That mob with NZ in the name certainly isn't (I might be a little bitter about the whole theft thing).
The whole thing is wrong. The defender is in the LV and it's being held in Spain.
Who won it last time again???

I agree that we shouldn't be defending it away from home waters. The experience in Auckland last time was one of the best sporting events I've been to and I know many that attended had the same view. Hopefully they can get Government backing if we defend it this time around so we can once again see these boats up close and personal. I find it really odd that they chose Spain as a destination when they don't have a horse in the race so to speak. It's just not the same spectacle when there isn't a thousand boats lining the course.

Hopefully they don't. It was government and council funds that they used to win it and then absconded overseas with. Doing it again would seem a bit foolish (but it's government and council so quite likely).

im not going to argue with the idea it "should" be raced in NZ, would be awesome and much preferred...but its also not the first time a defender has taken to a neutral venue and if the alternatives were genuinely loosing it because we didnt have the money to compete or no one coming to NZ to challenge and the whole thing slowly dying, i think we have to go with it
Ive seen it suggested several times on socials ETNZ have killed the AC moving away from traditional monohulls....its revisionist excuse to beat up on ETNZ ignoring it was Oracle that moved to Cats
the one thing they could have done is commit to bring ever second regatta back to NZ or something

theft thing
What's that? Don't follow at all closely
As above - had funding that was an "investment" based on the return that hosting it brings. Then they fucked off overseas.
The return for Auckland would have come when it was hosted in the City of Sails again.

For whatever reason this thread made me go back to watch footage of One Australia sinking back in 95. Hilarious at the time but how tf did that even happen?

They can host it wherever they like, and sail it in whatever boats they like, that is pretty much in the whole AC deed of gift premise but don't take public money to win it and then when the return is due bugger off with it. That is certainly not "Team NZ". It was done in very bad faith IMO.

Now that you mention it, I have never actually seen a reason for the structural failure. Can only assume that they were keeping weight down or quite simply got the loading model wrong in the design. Yes it was very amusing.
