@Jet our rugby writers do no analysis.
Q: why did Foster et al. also pick him on the wing? What are his weaknesses in tests at fullback? How is his linking and decision making? There's just nothing there to support anything ... this is puffy clickbait
Thats fair, but at some point we need to see Jordan or Love or AN Other at 15.
We dont know his weaknesses at fullback in tests, because he has had no meaningful minutes there. He is Schroedingers fullback.
Foster picked him on the wing for the same reason they picked Cory Jane or Ben Smith there. The old power winger on one, footballer on the other combo. It's also seen as a lower risk place to stick a bloke early doors in his career. Even Dagg played there and scored his Benji Marshall impression against the Boks.
Surely Beaudy cant monopolise the shirt until 2027.
Rassie has given chances to Sasha, Fassi, Libbok et al over the last year or so.
The Irish stuck Jamie Osborne in at 15 against the Boks (in South Africa) aged 22 having played all his pro rugby at centre.
Will Jordan is 26 with 33 tests under his belt. At some point he deserves an 80 minute stint or two there to either vindicate or shut the likes of me and media talking heads up. Keep in mind the current head coach is on record as saying "he is a fullback who can play wing". Its not like im asking for Ardie to play 12.
We are going stagnant.
We have become very conservative at the selection table since 2017, especially by Alllblack standards.

Take his name outta your mouth
Will Smith? I think you'll find he supports the Men in Black.
You can have him

@No-Quarter I wouldn't complain. South Africa has named their team twice already.
Exactly, the Bok fans get all the fun, while we sit here twiddling our thumbs until the end of the week waiting to find out which undeserving Crusader has been selected, leaving us limited time to get our bitching in before kickoff. Won't they think of the fans?

@george33
Sam Cane at 6 for the first 50 minutes I agree with.
His strengths are the direct forward orientated game that we must employ in the first half.
If we try to spin 50:50 ball through the backline from the get go things could get ugly.If we see pick n goes, mauls and long DMac kick exits I'll be happy.

We are due a good game of rugby with the South Africans.
2023 Twickenham was dire and so was the WC final.
Two of the most mistake ridden , disjointed games of rugby I've seen involving the ABs.And the refereeing/tmo involvement was a thundering disgrace.
I will never have that match mentioned without saying it.
Im still fucking seething over it.
I still can't believe no one is talking about nor, talked about the forearm from Kitsoff into Frizell's head that caused him to ilegally fall over and risk the life of the ground beneath him.

Cane at 6 and Paps at 7 is gross from an attacking perspective. Neither carry or link well, and neither is a genuine lineout target.
Happy days on D I guess, small things
Just listened to the rugby pod aotearoa. The first 10 min are worth a listen with Blair Feeney talking. He's coached all over the place.
His theory for beating the rush is to go to the second channel and have deeper playmakers coming around. Argues that you occasionally will be caught deep - but that you make rushers really get uncomfortable going deep, and give your 10/15 time to size up and make decisions.
Also wants good hitups beside the ruck to draw in defenders. Which makes a lot of sense ... except our only ball carrier is (checks notes) Ardie (sometimes). Ball carrying is not a skill that the Razor/Ryan axis value.
As for 6, for me you have to take Finau to shore up the lineout. But I suspect we'll see the hard working EB, who will get plenty of tackling practice.

You're new here. We gnashed over that, Cane's RC vs Kolisi's YC, and the performance of the ref and TMO for a long time after the game

I think we're more likely to see Cane at 7 and Papalii to the bench than that combo.
Neither carry or link well, and neither is a genuine lineout target.
In theory Papalii should be a good lineout option as he's the tallest of the loose forwards not named Finau. However, you seldom see a 7 used in the lineout due to being positioned at the tail.

Also I’m sure he can be pretty good with ball in hand too. More dynamic than Cane

Agree - he used to run and link well (back int he day). Maybe he's bulked up too much and slowed down?

Agreed - someone above threw it out sounding like sauce - hopefully not

Yes, Scotty Hansen often did that off Mo'unga, Jordan, Burke at the Crusaders.

They're the same weaknesses we see at SR level, just magnified.
