@Chris Yeah don’t get me wrong, Penny shouldn’t be there. I just don’t think Mainsbridge should shoulder the full blame. A lot more to it.
No not just Mainsbridge but he runs the ship he has to take some heat for decisions.
You protecting your clubman there ?.Who would you have coaching the Crusaders over Penney?
I would rather they bite the bullet and give it to Tamati Ellison, if we are going to take some pain develop a young coach.
I wonder if the Crusaders had this in mind and were ready to do this but then the gig he landed with the All Blacks came along and threw that whole plan off…
Still possible Tamiti is only involved for Home test weeks.
He will not travel to SA,Australia or the end of year tour.Really? If true that is disappointing to hear. I think Taimati has more potential as a coach than Rangi and Holland who've had very little success as coaches despite having over a decade of coaching experience.
Ellison has already won 4 titles, 1 as Wellington defense coach, 3 as Crusaders defense coach. I would rather see him full-time in the All Black's environment to support Rangi and Holland, is Razor really only taking 4 assistant coaches overseas @Chris?
Yes Taimati only involved for home tests on a part time capacity.
From the article below
Tamati Ellison, who has been a member of the Crusaders coaching group for the last two years, will also work part-time as a contact skills coach.

Confirmation of Penney keeping his job & comments from Mansbridge etc
-
As was predicted earlier, should we loose a couple of games early next season he is out.
-
Hey Mansbridge, nobody is asking you to kill the golden goose or blow up the academy, people were wanting a change in coach. Sure there were some close losses and there were injuries, but the team was dysfunctional, and that is on the coaches. Given the lack of past success for Penny, it's hard to see things being different next season.

yeah 100% stupid remarks by Mansbridge an over reaction, sacking the coach sure as hell will not kill the golden goose, or blow up the Academy FFS.

More like Colin Strawman-sbridge.......
....I'll get my coat.....
-
The Academy is cooked anyway. The money they spend on that and the players that actually come thru don’t compare. I’d love a breakdown of players that have been there since 2017 and see who’s actually played super rugby or NPC.
I know from our club we’ve had 2 in past 4 years who haven’t kicked on. -

Crusaders are crazy if they do not sign Lincoln McClutchie for next season. The guy is a strong performer for Hawkes Bay in the NPC while Taha Kemara can't even crack the Waikato starting lineup FFS.
-
I can only assume the reason he is being snubbed by everyone in NZ rugby bar HB has to do with the reason HB comes up as Hawkes Bay when you write it on this forum.

McClutchie isn’t exactly a strong performer. He’s serviceable at best at NPC level.
-
Any word on likely new signings?

I can't think of any other reason. The fern is strong.

If he was I would argue my point all the same. I kind of miss @Stargazer, I wonder where that fella got to.

Is it just early days, or does it appear we aren't signing anyone who is out of the Canterbury system?
-

@Chris-B said in Crusaders 2025:
@SBW1 Seb Calder is, isn't he?
@Chris - So Williams, Bower, Sykes-Martin, Brewis, Newell, Calder - with Tamaiti and George Bower both able to cover tighthead.
Not a bad rotation - ideally Williams and Newell starting - Brewis and Bower/Calder on the bench.
Yep That looks like the mix I would expect to see.
Good mix of props mostly young for props apart from Bower but all have decent Experience.
Sykes-Martin is good around the field playes with aggression good signing imo.Seb Calder born in ChCh has been through the Canterbury system and has had SR experience with the Crusaders for a couple of years.

@Chris 8 props ? Seems couple xtras
6 props
Williams,Newell,Calder,Sykes-Martin,Bower,Brewis. -
Does anyone see any radical changes to our roster for 2025 or are we assuming we would have had a better 2024 season if we hadn't had so many injured cattle or players being wrapped in cotton wool, like some of our All Blacks?
-
-
@Chris got plenty to learn, but has the skill set to be a very good starting Super rugby 10, think this year was the perfect storm at the 'saders for an indifferent season.
IMO a bit of a confidence issue and have hard he has come back to NPC lacking a bit there, but have seen some aspects of his game improved at NPC after his stint this year, so hopefully his super rugby will get better and consistent next year too.
-
Depending on who the 3rd signed First Five will be Rivez looks the best starting option for 2025.
-
-
Is there anyway we could get him back sooner?
-
-
More aging stars for the saders, great stuff 🙄
-
Don’t mind it
-
Rob Penny strikes again he learnt nothing from last year.O'Connor has been mostly injured for the last 2 years.
Another 34 year old just what we don't need. -
Lol I hope they do, James O'Connor is pretty average these days.
-
Kid (Crusaders Fans): I want Mo'unga
Mum (Crusaders): we have a Mo'unga at home.....
-
@Chris Somewhat surprisingly, we probably should have signed Willie Havili back when we signed Kemara.
He's turned into a very good player - as good as anyone else has in the NPC and better than our Crusaders options IMO.
Not a fan of O'Çonnor - but, I guess I'm not surprised. There's no very obvious options to bring in short term as a bridge back to Richie.
Nearly 20 years ago there was an Australian guy called Lee Grant posted here - he had the young JOC marked down as the next Mark Ella. He might have been except he did some dickhead things.

Yeah William Havilli would have been useful with that left boot of his.
O'Connor signing to me could be a repeat of the bad signings from last season Halfpenny etc. -
