Hurricanes 2025

Very rare for a New Caledonian or Tahitian to be playing top level rugby or league despite being French territory. Wonder if it is another part of the Pacific with potential.
New Caledonia and French Polynesia combined have over half a million people, not sure the Polynesian % of the latter but there is a Tahiti (Tahitian)* national side, and they have beaten the Cook Islands if that is an indication but as a tier 3 rugby nation in the Pacific seem to have some trouble getting games.
*Don't want to get involved in Tahiti versus French Polynesia terms-I didn't name them!

Interesting quote from the French coach re Tuifua: “A lot of people talk, say he would like to play for the All Blacks but it’s not exactly that when you talk to him. He wants to play Super Rugby, he has set himself this objective of playing it with the Hurricanes franchise,” Calvet said in February.

There is no doubt, however, that his decision to commit to the Hurricanes – should it be confirmed – is a boost to New Zealand and will harm France’s chances of selecting him going forward.

I wonder why the Canes?
Because he's based in the Canes region and has ambitions of being a Hurricane. Just a thought.

I have updated the squad list at the top of this thread to include Perofeta and Tuifua who are rumoured to be on there way to the Canes.
You can add Ere Enari to the list

Ouch. One of the slowest passing halfbacks in the country.

You’re fking kidding.
-
Oh good, he's gone from Moana then.
Don't worry Canes fans, he'll only be 3rd choice.

Over Preston? WTF
-
@foobaNZ said in Hurricanes 2025:
I'd think if we've got Enari it was because we couldn't get Preston. I'd hope so anyway!
Surely there’s better halfbacks than Enari floating around.

@Canes4life Is Jordie Viljoen is still in the Canes mix for 2023 ?

Yeah if you look at the top of the thread it’s got everyone that has signed and how long for. He’s signed through until end of 2026.

Hurricanes second round game against the Drua confirmed for Napier.
