I never liked her betraying her politics when she read the news in much the same way as I can't watch Henry or Hoskings, thats not her job and at the time I found her travelling to be there for Mandelas death funny and sad at the same time. I started a thread about it at the time and iirc quite a few other people agreed the vulture like behaviour of the press was pretty appalling even more so when they got tired of waiting for him to die and came home. </p>

<p>When Campbell left and people were all over Stuff commenting and crying as if their family had been slaughtered in some third world country I made the absolutely fatal mistake of commenting that he was a master at only taking one side of any given story to make himself look good and that he was campaigning for the "little guy". Fucken hell, the illiterates sure tore me a new one that day, I got told amongst other things I was a "one of da haterz" and that "your one of those fullas who thinks there better than everyone".......</p>

<p>I rarely watch 3 News so Hilary doesn't much register with me. But, if she's been there for 23 years, for an hour per night, then some people have spent nearly a year of their lives in her company. It's probably worth them being a bit downhearted that she's leaving - she really is a "mate".... as much as you fuckers are to me on the fern, which is to say that when the Titanic is going down and you're all going down the plughole, it's still going to be Rose's hand that gets grabbed and pulled to safety. :)</p>

<p>That's completely over the top Chris B. I think a "Christmas in the Park" type tribute show with the cream of New Zealands music talent like Dave Dobbyn, The Feelers, Herbs, Bic Runga interspersed with hilarious anecdotes and news reading highlights co hosted by John Campbell and Mike McRoberts is much more suitable. Perhaps we could organize a fern get together before the show ?</p> -

<p>The Guardian here in Australia has been pretty good in terms of actually doing research and publishing more thoughtful work that the two bigger outlets in Fairfax and News Ltd, who just seem to reference HuffPost and other sites nonstop, as well as the fluffy shit about celebrities.</p>
