@Damo Exactly. You're making do with what you have and just defeated a team that's just come off giving the powerhouse of the competition an absolute hiding, so yeah, I'd be pretty happy grinding out a tough win, which makes next weeks game in Tonga even bigger.

If we win next week we probably have enough to qualify for post season.

Then if the team we play in the quarters ends up getting a couple of red cards then we will be odds on to make the semi final where anything can happen.

whole team was pretty shocking and i think JRK is looking ok only in comparison, his one trick is to kick ok...or run into midfield contact...still dont think ive see him run to an edge and look to link with his wings, being the best of a bad bunch doesnt make him good

Highlanders grind out narrow victory over Western Force

Highlanders grind out narrow victory over Western Force

Winning ugly went to a new level on Saturday night as the Highlanders held on for a grim 7-6 win over the Western Force.

Meikle does a good job off communicating what the game felt like. Most match summaries are just a list of events

Just a thought. For once, I'd prefer to look at the positives. 85-90% of what the Highlanders did was actually good, or at the very least a step in the right direction.

The gameplan was way better, and the forward pack actually functioned in unison for the most part. Defence too was a brick wall.

Even the majority of the attack play itself was quite good, only let down by a catalogue of handling errors... (quite a large catalogue). Which brings me to the intangible of nerves. I think the players probably were rightly under a heap of pressure, because that was a real must not lose game... I think that probably can explain a large portion of the errors.

Still a bit of an issue that we try to rush things in one phase, but at least the attack had a bit of shape to it, and the likes of Tavatavanawai and JRK actually saw the ball in some decent positions...

this is huge, no patience to actually build territory and position...very AB's under Fozzie

Yeah, while it would be nice to just focus on the positives, the sheer amount of knock ons was ridiculous and very frustrating (especially when coupled with a scrum getting it's arsehole handed to it). It's probably much quicker to list the players that didn't knock on, as it felt like it was team wide. There just shouldn't be that amount of basic errors at that level.

It's not like we had a glut of possession either, it was 50/50 pretty much so that's not a factor. Anyone got handling error stats to completely shut down my off the cuff take?
