The New Zealand Breakers are in search of a new broadcasting home after long-term partners Sky Television have elected not to renew their contract with the Australian NBL.

Partly due to save on production costs of Breakers home games, but also because they (Sky) already pay for the rights to all NBL games via ESPN. The article says that TVNZ could be interested in being the broadcaster for this season.

I did not expect that.... Shame we can't watch, as I suspect TVNZ will only broadcast home games?

@canefan I think it was on Duke. I was surprised when I saw the score late in the 4th Q.

I just home from Spark Arena, having seen the Breakers make hard work of their first home game and home win this season. Takeaways for me

    1. The new coach is very calm, not robotic like Shamir but not crazy like Maor. It seems to filter down to the players

    2. The coach plays a large rotation. I think he played either 9 or 10 players during the game. It paid dividends late in the fourth quarter, as SEM started to fade the Breakers showed good energy right to the end

    3. No one in the team is afraid to not take a shot and score the ball. It could make us more dangerous, teams can't shut down one or two, they will have to keep an eye on the team

An important win and the Breakers move to 2-0

Just checking the results and await @mariner4life to surface after celebrating his mobs big tonkings of last year's two top sides this week - congrats that man. Will see how accurate those results were when they take on long time heavyweights Perth at home and Sydney away this coming week. Lucky they haven't got Brisbane or South East Melbourne this week where the wheels will probably be square rather than round if they follow their usual form of the past few years!!

    Bro we're winning the comp

3-1 and both wins this weekend have been big too.

As usual everyone picks us for thr spoon because our entire team is new, but we look pretty good.

Another tough week though with Perth Thursday and Sydney on Sunday

And this is why we are not going to win the comp. Two of our starting 5 out and we are in trouble.

Some positives. We're playing Perth and Cotton (the best NBL player i have ever seen) goes for 35, we had 2 starters out, and the foul count in fourth was 6-0 in favour of the amazingly perfect Wildcats, and we lost by 3, and had the shot to tie it up.

    Still pisses me off.

Lol watching the Taipans and Sydney. These two teams are totally playing in the same economic court. This is so totally a salary capped league...

Taipans are in a world of hurt. Since my "we're winning the comp" post groves and Armstrong have been out, we lost another one on Friday.

And we're losing bad. We are paddling pool shallow and cannot afford injuries.

Never easy to win in Sydders. We have the best offensive backcourt in the comp. Was great to see Lopez and Gillespie step up though. We have some genuine rim protection. Our D shut down Cook

Coach's deep rotation seems to allow us to finish strong, and keeps everyone involved and locked in

Although today he only played 8 guys. The previous games he played 10, 10, 10, 10, 11.

He did play Bairstow more today.

It will be interesting to see if he tightens the rotation nearer to the end of the season, especially if we are in contention

After the bad loss to the Jack Jumpers the Breakers needed a bounce back win vs Cairns. NZB started strong, Cairns fought back and took the lead early in the 4th as the Breakers went cold shooting, only to lose their import guard who fouled out after scoring 30 of the Taipans 60 points to that point. NZ finally warmed up again and took the lead back for good as Cairns could barely score the last 5 minutes. Far from vintage but they get a hard fought W and climb to 1st place with a 7-3 record. Not bad for a completely new team with a new coach

Fans and probably the team aren't happy with ownership selling one of their key players to make room for circus act Tacko Fall

What an idiotic move to sell Gillespie, the heart and soul of the team. Fall is too weak and too slow, and doesn't play enough minutes anyway. Now we have no rim protection, no pick and roll game, less space for PJC to work and consequently less space for our shooters. In doing so, ownership have forfeited the season for a few bucks. Wouldn't surprise me if we lose a very good coach at season's end too. Just a disgraceful lack of ambition

I haven't watched any of the games. As I mentioned previously, the Breakers having a Kiwi presence was a big attraction. The fact that Melbourne has much more NZers in their squad than the Breakers says it all.

Do they? We still have lots of kiwis, just not big names like the old days
