Taipans are in a world of hurt. Since my "we're winning the comp" post groves and Armstrong have been out, we lost another one on Friday.
And we're losing bad. We are paddling pool shallow and cannot afford injuries.

After dropping a midweek game, the Breakers take out the Sydney Kings away
Never easy to win in Sydders. We have the best offensive backcourt in the comp. Was great to see Lopez and Gillespie step up though. We have some genuine rim protection. Our D shut down Cook

Coach's deep rotation seems to allow us to finish strong, and keeps everyone involved and locked in
Although today he only played 8 guys. The previous games he played 10, 10, 10, 10, 11.
He did play Bairstow more today.

It will be interesting to see if he tightens the rotation nearer to the end of the season, especially if we are in contention

After the bad loss to the Jack Jumpers the Breakers needed a bounce back win vs Cairns. NZB started strong, Cairns fought back and took the lead early in the 4th as the Breakers went cold shooting, only to lose their import guard who fouled out after scoring 30 of the Taipans 60 points to that point. NZ finally warmed up again and took the lead back for good as Cairns could barely score the last 5 minutes. Far from vintage but they get a hard fought W and climb to 1st place with a 7-3 record. Not bad for a completely new team with a new coach

Fans and probably the team aren't happy with ownership selling one of their key players to make room for circus act Tacko Fall
-
What an idiotic move to sell Gillespie, the heart and soul of the team. Fall is too weak and too slow, and doesn't play enough minutes anyway. Now we have no rim protection, no pick and roll game, less space for PJC to work and consequently less space for our shooters. In doing so, ownership have forfeited the season for a few bucks. Wouldn't surprise me if we lose a very good coach at season's end too. Just a disgraceful lack of ambition

I haven't watched any of the games. As I mentioned previously, the Breakers having a Kiwi presence was a big attraction. The fact that Melbourne has much more NZers in their squad than the Breakers says it all.
Do they? We still have lots of kiwis, just not big names like the old days

In the regular rotation Melbourne has Loe, Ili and Cameron. The Breakers have Mennenga and Darling. I don't count King as he wants to play for Aust. The rest hardly play.

this thread is dead because
The Breakers and the Taipans both fucking suck and are at the bottom of the ladder.
The Taipans are an absolute disgrace. Yesterday against Adelaide was the first time i have considered leaving early. Yes that squatty no-neck Vasiljavic hit 7 threes in the first quarter (some were just absolute bullshit) but in reply we scored 12. Twelve points in a quarter. And the margin never close the whole game.
There is not a single player on this roster that i want to see back next year. If Armstrong believes he is on the NBA path then he is deluded. Our imports suck, and have basically quit. Our Aussies are shit. THe fact that Jonah Antonio gets 12 minutes a game tells you everything you need to know about our team.
Yes we are poor, i get that. But that only tells part of the story. There are some wild stories doing the rounds about the back office, and if half the rumours are true then there is a serious problem.
This team is as bad a Taipans team as i have seen. I have seen some really bad ones. At least that year we went broke and only had development players, they actually tried.

Massive mismanagement by the Breakers ownership group. We went into the FIBA break on top of the table, they sell our best forward from under the coach who makes his displeasure clear.
Last time my mate (who is dyed in the wool Breakers) checked, Freeman rides the pine in Italy. Replace him with a circus act in Tacko Fall, who can't play the pick and roll game like Freeman, who can't protect the rim like Freeman because he turns about as quickly as the Titanic on a clear night in the North Atlantic. So now we can't score, we can't defend, season over. If I was a season ticket holder I think I'd demand a refund. Oh and apparently the coach, who had defied expectations is homesick and will probably leave at the end of the season. PJC will probably leave too. I can't even stand to watch them anymore -
The Breakers are now a vanity project for Matt Walsh. Going to play NBA teams in-season shows how little he cares for what is best for the team. No other NBL team makes that trip now.
I haven't watched any games, but it would be interesting to know what the crowd numbers are like this season compared to previous seasons. They seem to be playing more games away from Spark Arena too.
