The Canes CEO looked pissed off in his interview. Someone in team management should be sacked
Politics aside (although that will be fun to watch), the arrogance of Perenese to say that they want to use their "platform" - which is subsidised by profit making rugby competitions - to make a stand really pisses me off.

Hurricanes management should have the balls to let her go. The team made a childish mistake. Thats life. But like a naughty child one leader is digging her toes in. She seems to be a disruptive element in the team and needs to go
It's just a shame that this team is playing before the men's game. They should change the location and let their play in some run-down dump.
The Poua’s haka leader, 12-test Black Ferns prop Leilani Perese, on Tuesday said she didn’t care about the backlash.
“I believe in what we're saying, I stand by it,” she told RNZ.
“I believe that in rugby, we have a platform where people watch and listen. And why not use our platform to show our people we will never fold? To tell the government that we are stronger than ever, and we will never go down without a war.”
The Poua play their first home match of their campaign at Wellington’s Sky Stadium on Saturday, against the defending champions Matatū.

I find the Poua haka thing a little confusing. I not keen on it, but was I overly upset? Well not really, I said same when Josh Kronfeld wore anti nuclear signs on wrist band, players have christian messages or pray after games etc, players took knees in national anthems . Be honest, every poster on here, who saw it, and who understood what was being said? I will almost bet noone, but media made a thing of it (same as other things) so cue outrage etc. I will be honest, as I said I don't really like it, but if that all I have to worry about my life is pretty f***en good, even better than I think it is.

@Dan54 Individual expression is fine - but politics is very, very poor form due to it's highly discriminatory nature and even worse form when it's a democratically elected government.
It's appallingly divisive and discriminatory in a sport which should be focused on bringing people together, not pushing them apart.
Rugby should be a game for everyone, where everyone is welcomed - not just the people who voted for Labour, greens or TPM.

Mate I agree, but I in no way thought Poua were saying I not welcome at game because I voted for Nats. As I said I not overly keen on it, but to think they were saying that anyone but left wingers were welcome at rugby is perhaps drawing a long bow.
-
@Dan54 You can not insult over half the country calling them "red necks" who you are willing to go to "war" with apparently and then expect them to turn up to the game and buy your merch.
That is a very long, ungrateful, narcissitic, biogted and divisive bow if there ever was...

Well I never knew she was calling me a red neck, and still don't think she was. Were you going to any of their games anyway?? I find someone calling me a redneck (didn't think she was) when I wasn't listening and didn't understand if I was a bit pontless anyway. Mate much as I dislike the fact ,I have come to conclusion that Luxon is pretty gutless and said so on here, I wasn't calling myself or half the country gutless, just saying what I think of my disappointment in his gov't that I voted for. Have seen some pretty harsh comments on Green Party, Labour, ACT,NZP on here and never thought they were aimed at people who voted for them. Boy perhaps a foil hat should be fitted?

reckon 'puppet of a redneck government' would sell as a T Shirt.
Difference for me is personal expression (Josh K with a nuclear symbol on headgear - that he had to take off; Usman with the dove, Pocockwomble with his BDSM) and hainvg a team do it. Team inherently includes organisation.
Bet the supporters wouldn't be so keen if a bunch of players decided to lead with MAGA style right wing support.

….or if the All Blacks did a haka a couple of years back and said “fuck Jacinda”
Freedom of speech is all fine for the extreme left as long as it aligns 100% with their values.

I not saying it ok NZZP. but did you really feel they were calling you a redneck like was suggested to which I replied. I voted for Nats but didn't feel they were calling me a redneck is what I saying . Some of us are getting too precious and think everything aimed at us. God help us as I said I saw teams take a knee etc, didn't particularly agree with that but didn't feel threatened by it. See teams praying at end of game, don't think they are excluding me or anything. Same as Josh's anti nuclear arm band, he was told to lose it, and I would assume the Poua will be told not to do it again rightly. Just thinking a few of us look for reason to purse our lips and get outraged. Perhaps I missed where I was insulted? Did you see the haka?
-
@Dan54 Mate - they are using their platform in an intentionally insulting manner.
Perhaps your one of those guys who feels sympathy for the socioeconomic conditions of the burglars who rob your house and don’t get offended by such an act, and if so - jolly good for you.
However, this opinion of yours that you're "not offended" does not take away from the rights of others - like me to say, "hey you shouldn't do that".
You shouldn't do insulting haka's - nor should you burgle people’s houses.
-
It's "you're" one of those guys. Don't worry, I'm not offended by you getting it wrong, I know it was just your socioeconomic background's fault.
This incident kinda confirms the point made earlier - that Seymour and his stupidity have riled up a heap of "mainstream" Maori. They have the right to say 'you shouldn't do that' - or do they? -
Just because someone is - or isn't offended has no bearing what-so-ever on the topic.
It certainly shouldn't be used to shut down a conversation.
Of course they have a right to speak their mind, but I guess it comes down to what's most important to you.
Having an inclusive culture that welcomes everyone to your sports club regardless of race, religion or who they vote for?
Or getting your political point across.
One of sports great healing balms is that it is place where differences are put aside and everyone is welcomed. If we are to dissolve that for the sake of simple politices then our society is a great deal poorer and more divided, not enriched or better.
Unless your one of those guys I suppose.
