@nepia My brother coached in Uni's Colts grade and is still involved in the club so will talk to him about the situation when he is back over here ANZAC weekend. Can't ring him at the moment as he is a Taradale supporter. In fact I am quite surprised he has not phoned after my guys got towelled up by them yesterday. A third brother (also Taradale) had no such qualms about rubbing it in though!

So I was walking through Sydney Uni yesterday and saw one of their rugby teams warming up. I assume it was their premier team but I can't be sure. They are sponsored by a Ford dealership (who had cars and banners around the field) and a couple of other companies which made me think it was their top team.
the "posh school old boys" club we thrashed a couple of weeks ago in a warm up game is sponsored by "movember"...as in they dont need a sponsor so gave the spot to a charity....

Rugby players are the dumbest, laziest fluffybunnies in history when it comes to following simple instructions.
Here's our season draw - both in graphical form on Instagram and on this web page I keep linking in the group chat, including map links to every fucking fixture. If you have any questions, refer to that. If you have other questions, make them fucking special because really playing footy is all you care about.
"Bro when's Round 1?"
had our last trial game on sat (5 out of 5 wins)....12 guys across the 1's and 2's still not registered....lost my rag to the point i had to apologise to a couple...one of the guys....over 100 games and played for the club for a decade...straight face 10 minutes before kickoff...."how do i register".....the same way you have done for the last 5 years dip shit
I keep telling the coaches they need to hammer a change in mind set....if you've been training then assume your playing....dont wait until the team is announced to tell people you cant play

FMD.
They realise that if they're not registered, they're not insured for training or game day?

they do if you ask but for some reason it just doesnt click if you dont spell it out
doesnt help that the "insurance" you get isnt comprehensive....like you really need private health on top as surgery isn't covered for example...so some at least are "im already covered"....some think medicare is enough...
I was so annoyed because id checked the night before and put out a message saying they cant play if theyre not registered...and they know who they are and theyre all big boys and i shouldn't have to spend my friday night chasing them up individually...and to sort it before sat...and too have so many rock up on sat and not say anything until i went to lodge my list and couldnt name them....

Really? The insurance we get assumes you have Medicare - so all the Fijian blokes are fucked - and is generally pretty good, if a bit slow. It isn't grandiose enough to cover income etc. which is why so many clubs have a player serious injury fund.

The best ones are the guys who want to do it on someone else's phone. Either they can't be arsed downloading the app, or want someone to do it for them, or have no data left on their plan because they're manchildren who somehow are allowed to drive cars etc.
-
ok, might as well have a vent...something thats really annoying me but most people brush off...jerseys....we get one new set each year that go to the 1's and the old ones get handed down a grade....except jerseys go missing...players take a little souvenir...but it just makes life more difficult when naming a full team....
most recently we found someone has pinched a whole set (last years 3s) they got their own sponsor so got new jerseys last year...they were locked up...and no gone@NTA said in Aussie Community Rugby:

i would say 2/3 of our club are from overseas so i just tell them to make sire they have some sort of other insurance

And they won't dob each other in, either. Nah they'll lie and cheat and steal from the club, but "bro code" And the club just has to figure it out like they're drowning in money.
This close to season that puts a spanner in the works.
I think next year we have to up our fees and make everyone pay up front.

New kit arrived yesterday…pretty unknown brand but actually impressed, the jersey is better than we got from blk
i also like the fact that all the bags the gear came in, individually wrapped...were composable...so you dont feel quite as bad about the huge pile of packaging you throw out
-
@NTA side note, a set of jerseys from S-Trend was less than $1200 ($47.50 each) and apparently we got our 1's kit (25 jerseys) for free because we ordered all the other kit through them
i'm quite impressed, grip pattern on the chest, rubber around the hem and they set up an on line store for people to buy supports gear
-
Round 1 down, clean sweep in the Dewer shield games, three tight games but good start!

That's actually pretty good - I struggle to get anyone to buy supporters kit but I know Sinalli (local guy) have a capability as they supply bigger clubs than us.
Our current edition jerseys are around the same price for the "pro" cut which is 4 way stretch. No grip panels on those but I think they're an option.

@NTA we had a good session at our jersey presentation night last week before round one, set up a shop and sold a good amount of supports gear or training gear for guys that have joined late, the big ones are caps (havent had them for years), casual/training hoodie and a sideline jackets
jerseys have had their first games/wash and came out ok...good start
met the guy from S-trend at the presentation too, seemed good bloke

check out our shop for the kinds of stuff they do

Just got notice that the $7800 in NSW Sport Grants we applied for was not successful
Ungood. Club budgeted about $20k for this year for 2 Grades after our Colts didn't get up.
$2500 = 2 x set of jerseys
$2000 = 2 x RA "Participation Fee"
$1100 = 2 x Subbies team registration
$5400 = 2 x team insurance
$3000 = physio
$2000 = consumables - tape, deep heat, match balls etc
$1500 = sundry costs.Got about $11k in sponsorship and we'll do another $15k-$20k in raffles but hardly ideal with a lot of those bills landing now.
Also wanted to order more merch but can't afford it unless I organise a preorder which is a massive pain in the arse
-
@NTA yeah, raffles and stuff getting you money in the long run doesnt help you pay the bills now
im not sure on our cost too that detail as so far have avoided the committee proper, we have over 100 registered players and about 140 of the registration goes to the club so thats $15000 too get the ball running i guess
-
@NTA currently guys can register without paying? yeah, you have too, all of us coaches/managers have "sponsored" someone, see who made it to being selected for the first squad without registering and then hit them up to see if they had money issues...its all unofficial though as you have the guys that have been paid before and would take it if they could even if they dont need it...in general though its no no pay no register no play
