@Stargazer Scots have a gun backline this year, including Roderick Solo & Ethan Webster-Nonu so it wouldn't surprise me if they won by a big amount.
This ranking system from the High School Top 200 website gives you a fair idea of where Scots and Napier rank nationwide:
- Hastings BHS
- Rotorua BHS
- Otago BHS
- Hamilton BHS
- Auckland GS
- King’s College
- St Kentigerns College
- Kelston BHS
- Scots College
- Sacred Heart College
- Nelson College
- St Bedes College
- Christchurch BHS
- St Peter’s College
- New Plymouth BHS
- De La Salle College
- Westlake BHS
- Tauranga Boys College
- Napier BHS
- St Paul’s Collegiate
- St Patrick’s Silverstream
- Palmerston North BHS
- Southland BHS
- John McGlashan College
- St Andrews College

@Canes4life That ranking is from a guy who has never given any detail on how he ranks schools, only that he got his ranking system from the USA. I remember how he ranked schools the last few years, and he was way off.
Napier Boys have been good thus far, so I don't think a good backline from Scots can make such a big difference. I may be wrong, but until more info becomes available, I'm inclined to believe that either the score was wrong or something happened during that game (like red card(s) being handed out) or good players missing from the Napier line-up.
-
@Stargazer Yeah you would think something like a card would of had to eventuate for the score to blow out like that. Scots have been dominant in Wellington though so who knows.
-
@Number-10 Yeah, just read that article. Unfortunately, no info on what happened in that game.

@Nepia Yes, they have been. Napier was trailing for most of the game, too, but managed to get a late try to win it. Some really big players in that Gisborne team.
Haven't watched the Hastings game yet.I was talking to the parents of one of the NBHS players when they were down here when the 2nds played Wellington College and they told me the GBHS have apparently closed their boarding hostel so I guess Napier's Scinde House are getting some of the big back country farm boys that presumably made Gisbrone strong in the past.

Really good to see that we have a good 10 developing in the Bay again; Latrell Ah Kiong is in hist second year of playing 1st XV for Hastings, but he's only in year 13 IIRC.
Also some promising midfielders in Jayden Stok (played on the wing last year), Jack Sheridan (both Napier) and Jordan Thompson-Dunn (Hastings).

Hastings TH prop Jeremiah Tuiatua steals it for Hastings! Great try.
Full time: Napier 21 - 24 Hastings
Not so sure Hastings really deserved that win; with another ref they'd probably had a player in the bin. They conceded a lot of penalties in their 22 with Napier hot on attack. That last try was against the run of play.
Having said that, Napier could have been well ahead if it wasn't for all the dropped balls and knock-ons. I'm not very impressed with their outside backs. Their pack looked strong, definitely better than Hastings' pack.
Stand-outs for me:
Napier: Walker (1), Leutele Malasia (6), Stok (12) and Sheridan (13), and Ennor (19) from the bench
Hastings: Flanders (8), Ah Kiong (10), Thompson-Dunn (12)MotM: Ah Kiong

Awesome, win to the good guys!
Thanks for the updates @Stargazer
