@Stargazer Nice work by Hastings and Napier Boys' as I think both their opponents have been decent so far this year?

@Nepia Yes, they have been. Napier was trailing for most of the game, too, but managed to get a late try to win it. Some really big players in that Gisborne team.
Haven't watched the Hastings game yet.

Has the post mortem been released from the Scots College match. The scoreline beggars belief and one can only assume NBHS played most of the 2nd XV and the 3rds took on Hutt Valley Firsts for a scoreline like that to eventuate. Maybe Scots played that sprinting sensation and he might have streaked away for about ten runaway tries?

@Higgins No info whatsoever on social media; not from Napier Boys, not from Scots, not from anyone else about that game.

@Stargazer Scots have a gun backline this year, including Roderick Solo & Ethan Webster-Nonu so it wouldn't surprise me if they won by a big amount.

This ranking system from the High School Top 200 website gives you a fair idea of where Scots and Napier rank nationwide:

    1. Hastings BHS
    2. Rotorua BHS
    3. Otago BHS
    4. Hamilton BHS
    5. Auckland GS
    6. King’s College
    7. St Kentigerns College
    8. Kelston BHS
    9. Scots College
    10. Sacred Heart College
    11. Nelson College
    12. St Bedes College
    13. Christchurch BHS
    14. St Peter’s College
    15. New Plymouth BHS
    16. De La Salle College
    17. Westlake BHS
    18. Tauranga Boys College
    19. Napier BHS
    20. St Paul’s Collegiate
    21. St Patrick’s Silverstream
    22. Palmerston North BHS
    23. Southland BHS
    24. John McGlashan College
    25. St Andrews College

@Canes4life That ranking is from a guy who has never given any detail on how he ranks schools, only that he got his ranking system from the USA. I remember how he ranked schools the last few years, and he was way off.

Napier Boys have been good thus far, so I don't think a good backline from Scots can make such a big difference. I may be wrong, but until more info becomes available, I'm inclined to believe that either the score was wrong or something happened during that game (like red card(s) being handed out) or good players missing from the Napier line-up.

@Stargazer Yeah you would think something like a card would of had to eventuate for the score to blow out like that. Scots have been dominant in Wellington though so who knows.

The 70-17 win to Scot's College over Napier BHS is a correct scoreline.

There is a reference to it from Napier BHS coach Brendon Ratcliffe in this morning's HB Today.

I was talking to the parents of one of the NBHS players when they were down here when the 2nds played Wellington College and they told me the GBHS have apparently closed their boarding hostel so I guess Napier's Scinde House are getting some of the big back country farm boys that presumably made Gisbrone strong in the past.

Napier v Hastings, a good game to watch thus far.

    10 - 12 - 13 good for Napier in the first 20 minutes.
For Hastings, Flanders (Devan's younger brother Cooper) and Ah-Kiong among the best.

Napier attacking most of the time, but Hastings' defence is good.

Great turnover and break from Flanders, leading to an excellent try from Tupou. Converted by Ah Kiong.

    7 - 10 Hastings

A few line-outs from Napier later, and they are in again via good try from hooker Iafeta Maa, with a big role from both props, esp Jayden Walker. Martin converts.

    14 - 10 Napier

Wow, classy try from Ah Kiong! He converts his own try.

    Half time: Napier 14 - 17 Hastings

    Great game.

Really good to see that we have a good 10 developing in the Bay again; Latrell Ah Kiong is in hist second year of playing 1st XV for Hastings, but he's only in year 13 IIRC.

Also some promising midfielders in Jayden Stok (played on the wing last year), Jack Sheridan (both Napier) and Jordan Thompson-Dunn (Hastings).

Napier definitely the better team for scrums and line-outs. Hastings better at the breakdown thus far.

Jayden Stok finally gets another try for Napier. They fully deserved that try. They have been so dominant in the 2nd half, but no points. Martin slots his 3rd conversion.

Not long to go now. 21 - 17 Napier
