Black Caps v Australia

@MN5 Also got us through to 165, so we've won the second innings!
Unfortunately, with five of the top seven failing in each innings, we've got way too much to do.
Cam Green's 208 runs currently the difference, while Little Kane has contributed 9.

They haven't done themselves justice.
For Pete's sake I wish they would believe in themselves.
WOR, GP, Henry did fight, proud of them -

Radio saying they need to bring back Wags which is awkward given he’s retired
Wishful thinking, I think.
Wags didn't worry SA B too much.
Aside from failing to break the Green/Hazelwood partnership, the bowling attack went alright in this test.
It's really the bulk of the batsmen who have failed - on a pitch that was tricky, but far from unplayable - as shown by Phillips, Henry, Ravindra and Mitch Jr.

Yeah those guys get pass marks. Top three certainly don’t and Will Young gets extra deductions for running out KW and not making up for it with a huge score.
Is Conway due back by the chch test ?

It’s actually bordering on unbelievable the complete lack of mental fortitude the Black Caps have when it comes to playing Australia…
What's unbelievable to me is the optimism on here that this weak Black Caps side were going to trouble the best side in the world

Just not at the Australians Level which is not surprising given the resources each nation has.

@LABCAT Yeah - we opened up the Oz top order twice - 176/6 in the first innings and all out for 164 in the second.
Their batting isn't devastatingly good for an Australian team - as the Windies showed. The problem is that their bowlers are significantly better than ours so are always a good chance to bowl us out for less than they make.
Our specialist batsmen underperformed - especially the top three. For some reason, we have a lot of guys struggling for form. Even though Kane made a shit ton of runs vs SA - he didn't look particularly fluent making them.

Tom Latham has gone 12 innings without a half century and the career average has dipped below 40. Massive question marks about Young and Conway has his dramas too. Whichever pair they go with will have issues.
KW is KW. He’ll contribute next time round.
Ravindra looked great getting 59 but got a duck in the first so I’m not convinced about him quite yet. Really disappointed he didn’t go on to a big hundred when we needed it.
Mitchell grafted but looked like he was struggling overall.
Blundells recent form is horrific.
Phillips could be a bloody good all rounder for us.
Overall things a a tad bleak at the moment

The only difference here is Cam Green's knock in the first. Their other 19 innings amount to not much.

We have a terrible domestic season structure. Where red ball goes into hiatus for 3 months and the Super Smash takes about 5 or 6 weeks to complete.
This is papered over when we have a generational talented team, but rares its head when we revert to the mean.
Exascerbated even more by the busy winter. And players going on month long rest or injury hiatuses in January (Ravindra, Mitchell, Blundell) and having the form sucked out of them.

@Chris-B got to replace Labuschagne. Mentally he's shot
Yeah - I'd drop Smith down to 3 - he's not really an opener - so was likely to give us an opening. I think Marnus has averaged 30 in the past 12 months - across quite a lot of tests - whereas during his purple period he averaged 70+.
I think Cam Green was only averaging about 32 at the start of this test and Head and Marsh are always a chance to go cheaply, so there's some vulnerability.
It's annoying that Cam chose this test to make his statement!
