Really pleased to see Santner given a chance. He showed some lovely flight in his bowling at the ODI World Cup that showed potential for more than just an economical/holding bowler in tests. Add in his batting and fielding too.
Ah yeah steady on. Everyone who plays cricket bats and fields at some stage. Not really a point of difference.
Santner has a test century to his name and is an outstanding fielder, whereas Sodhi - for example - is an adequate lower order batter and an absolute liability in the field.
Are you trying to be funny or deliberately obtuse? Or both?
Is any modern cricketer really a “liability” in the field ?
If any modern cricketer is, it's Sodhi. Drops more than his fair share of catches and moves like a carthorse no matter how they try to hide him.
I’m not sure he’s played enough or maybe I haven’t noticed. There doesn’t seem to be too many Phil Tufnells around these days.
It’s a pretty sad day on the fern when I’m talking up Sodhi though. Whoever gets the spinner spot in the team is subject to lots of criticism.

As I said Santner bowled with real flight and guile in the recent World Cup which showed enough to suggest he might yet have something offer in test cricket with the ball.
