I'm assuming it was always going to be Dmac at 10 and BB at 15 (and probably the back-up 1st 5 as well).

Everyone else was fighting for the 3rd first 5 or back up FB spot.

Why though? Why should Beauden (who's shown f all form as a fullback over the last few years) automatically be selected? This is why the ABs haven't gone anywhere in the last few years, it's because of backward selections like this. Being innovative is what kept us at the top of the pile, we haven't been there for a long time because we keep favouring certain players. Beauden peaked 7-8 years ago, he's not the player that he used to be so why persist with him...

Now do the same with Blackadder and Akira, Havilli and Lam, Bell and literally anybody else.

And the big one for back to the future is TJ, his time has gone, put in the young guys.

@Kirwan why can't we just pick the best players? If Cane gets in it will be a joke, if Havili gets in it will be a joke, Blackadder shouldn't be there because he actually needs to play consistently to show he's still up there. For me TJ only gets selected because Roigard is still out. Once he comes back I'd assume TJ will be dropped. Another guy we need to move on from.

I'd argue Proctor, Sotutu, Lam and Love were some of the highest performing players in super this year and probably couldn't have done more to warrant selection. If all of them miss out it will be bloody disappointing.

That's him! That Southland tried to push to the Landers as a prop. Our management, went, don't be stupid. He's a big bloody 8

@SouthernMann very interesting, to be fair though the improvement he's shown in the last year has been huge. If he works with better coaches he could be a beast. Again though? Who does he come in for? Lomax and Newell are surely locks, unless they go for 6 props.

I'd like to announce I've been selected on the wing. All Blacks are well and truely fucked.

    Instead of a 32 man squad it's 30 x 2 man squad

Why would players in the squad be flying to Christchurch? Presumably the camp is in Auckland, and in any case I thought they weren't meeting until midweek.

Anyone predicting any other Highlanders but EDG to make the squad?

Fakatava the only other possibility. EDG and Fakatava were the only two present at last week's camp.

pub quiz: which national / international team has Scott Robertson coached previously? clue: depending on your quibble I count 3. And one isn't well known but I doubt is one any other AB coach has coached.

Usually new ABs are at the AB announcements for interviews/photos

@HLD2023Champions possibly Mitchell P Dunshea, heard from one of my sources that he’d been lurking around the streets of Tauranga last week

Connor Garden-Bachop’s funeral is in Christchurch today. I think a lot of people are getting their wires crossed.
