Hotham has to be close with Roigard injured, he’s been the best halfback in SR the past month
I would think Hotham is also the closest to Roigard as a running HB.
He is proving to be quite smart in his decisions around when to run. I also like the way he is still managing to clear the ball while under pressure and at times actually having players hanging off him after they have come through the ruck.

Yeah he has been very good the last 3 games.
His running game adds a point of difference for us, his kicking is improving the 50/20 he nailed tonight is an example of getting better. -
Random thought on the looseforwards.
There were questions being asked of certain Sith loosies a few weeks ago, particularly (justified) queries about some extra weight being carried by a specific Sader.
Not that he's playing badly but I wouldn't mind seeing the skin fold tests of his Blurs opposite last night.
Both playing well, but neither make my first AB squad.

At the end of the day, there are loads of good halfbacks around, and it probably doesn't matter which ones are selected.
Highlanders fans will want Fakatava
Crusaders fans will want Hotham
Hurricanes fans will want Perenara
Chiefs fans will want Ratima
Blues fans will want Christie & FunakiFacts are, all are very good halfbacks with pros and cons, and I don't think it really matters which ones they pick... though personally I'd be looking at Fakatava, Hotham, Perenara and Ratima.

Also, everyone wants Roigard
I didn’t even need to click on this to know that @Canes4life gave it an upvote.
Mind you there is a lot to like about Roigard. He’s basically Byron Kelleher with the added bonus of having a brain.

I think Funaki has been more solid and composed than Fakatava. Don't think it a co-incidence that Plummer has looked so solid at 10. Hotham has looked good, though, in the last few games.

@MN5 Roigard all the way mate.
The future looks bright at halfback, especially considering Vijoen has hardly come into the frame yet aswell. He's got the best pass of any halfback going around but is obviously very small.

So now the Canes' third string halfback is in the mix ... ??

Oops 4th string

@booboo nah, not even close yet. He's a few years down the track and will likely be back-up to Roigard when Perenara leaves but he's probably the closest we'll get to an Aaron Smith type halfback for a while. His pass is very quick and he's zippy. Was arguably the Canes best when he started against the Force to kick off the season so has potential. I'm just saying the future is bright in the halfback department.
Wish we had the same depth at first five.

Yep. While Roigard def. looks the goods and had the 9 slot nailed down, he's only made 3 appearances in Black and we don't know how his injury will affect him. I love the way the likes of Ratima, Funaki and Hotham have stepped up - competition is great.

Anyone else think that Fakatava's performance against the Drua is more in keeping with what we're hoping he can produce?
-
Roigard has future AB legend written all over him. Perenara in the form of his life. Not sure about Fakatava and Christie, good players but will probably be superseded by a young player coming up. Of the young ones, Ratima, Hotham, and Funaki all look good but need miles on the clock.

Folau Fakatava is still only 24, just seems older because he burst on to the scene pretty young.
He hasn’t had his best season this season, his first one being the outright starting 9 and it seems he’s put too much added pressure on himself and tries too hard, these both cause him to make some silly mistakes. Super frustrating but I believe he will grow out of that.
Today against the Drua was his best game of the season and a reminder of why he was picked for the all blacks a couple years back. When he’s in form he’s one of a kind and today he really put his hand back into the mix for the black jersey, he probably knows he’s behind a few right now but it’s still good to see for all NZ rugby.
No matter what way it goes, the halfback position is in safe hands and is going to be a very tightly contested position for the All Blacks moving forward. Let’s hope they can all stay healthy.
