All Blacks 2024

@mariner4life In the previous set ups they often had other players not technically in the squad but named as training cover. Could be the case again.

Re: selection
I honestly don't give a shit who he picks as long as it is for a reason. If it's because he knows them, or they are a sympathetic voice in the locker room (emotional support journeymen) then that is fucked. But if it is because he has clarity around exactly how he wants to play, and is picking the best pieces to carry that out, then i don't give a shit what names are read out.
I know i am asking far too much from rugby, but it would be great to hear him explain it too.

i would be happy for him too just name a leadership group from his squad and then name a captain after he names his 23, just get the team firing first

would it be fair to say AS is only l;oose forward guaranteed get in squad?
And Papalii
-
If we only select 6 loosies, who are then? Papali'i, Jacobsen, Sotutu, Blackadder, Finau and Savea? With Lakai selected as a so-called training member?

That looks pretty close to me.
-
i don't think either Jacobson or Blackadder are good enough for top level test rugby.

Who would be the next loosie if/when Blackadder is out injured?
Lakai as I think Blackadder will be used to cover 7 until Cane is back v Argentina.
-
Apparently Cam Roigard is making really good progress with his recovery and could be back sooner than expected.

Wouldn't quite go that far, but they aren't performing like the others on that list
-
@KiwiMurph don't you mean, let's just not pick Blackadder because he'll get injured anyway and just select Lakai instead...

My question was more if they wanted to bring Lakai only slowly and keep him as a training member rather than a full squad member even if injury struck the main squad - who would replace Blackadder.
-
@antipodean Not that I agree with it of course.

It's worth noting there's under 2 weeks from Razor's first squad naming until the first test
That may hint towards a more conservative squad selection initially.
It could also be an excuse to pick players he's familiar with
It looks like Grace, Drummond, Havili etc will be well rested, so there's that as well.
…..Grace often rests during games as well to be fair

You'll need someone in the loose forward mix who offers some versatility to cover multiple positions in a match-day 23. If Savea is the starting no.8 then Sotutu would only be involved if Ardie was also the 7 cover. And then we're back to needing someone else to cover 6 if required.
-
@KiwiMurph if you're looking at a 6 then I would personally select Shields, pretty sure he's available and he's been much better than Ioane overall this season, he also provides much needed experience. If you want to select an out and out 8 then Brayden Iose is probably the next man up on form. If you're selecting a 7 to replace Blackadder then I would go Billy Harmon.
-
England capped dick fingers Brad Shields?
the bots are getting so bad
-
@mariner4life has he not been one of the form 6's in the comp? He's definitely an improved version of the 2016 Shields who dropped everything that came his way. Infact he's hardly put a foot wrong since coming back. Shields is probably the only other 6 in the comp that provides the physicality required for test match footy. Ioane is too inconsistent and Grace can't even dominate at Super level.
